Guest guest
Does anyone know how to regain abdominal strength after the hysterectomy. I can do crunches just fine. Reverse crunches are harder. It feels like I can hardly activate the muscles. Planks, well I totally lost the ability to do those. Any ideas of strengthening those areas. It feels like the muscles don't turn on like the nerves aren't connected to receive the messages. Its weird.
Guest guest
Oh, another question. I did yoga bliss hips with ravina. What purpose does the breath of fire have? I tried it, but after a bit I felt light headed. After a bit It felt like my lungs were on fire. I am not sure if I like the workout. I also did lee holden neck and shoulder pain. Guest guest
breath of fire is a cleansing and balancing breath. if you start to feel light headed stop and breathe normally for a few breathes and then start again. it takes practice!! stacey
Guest guest
how long has it been? I was warned not to do them 1 month post op as the surgical cut was deep and the muscles take time to repair. I too still have no lower ab strength. I can do crunches but some that target the area of incision are hard (I am about 18 mo post op). but I will confess to just now trying to focus on rear absjudy To: exercisevideos Sent: Monday, February 13, 2012 11:55 PM Subject: Re: Planks ? Guest guest
Kegel exercises? I don't know for sure, but they're supposed to strengthen the pelvic floor of the lower abdomen... I haven't had a hysterectomy, but I've had 2 C-sections. I had some real pain with scar tissue when I started working out pretty hard, but it's passed now. I occasionally have a pang or two, just nothing like when I started. Guest guest
Hi!I would maybe look to some post natal type exercises. I think I had a Pilates workout that was for post pregnancy at some point - and I think Tracey Mallett has a workout series for post natal (maybe your library has some so you can at least borrow them?). I think those would work well b/c the challenges are probably similar - weakened muscles. I would be super careful, though, it hasn't been that long since your surgery - and everything needs to heal. I'd say make sure you are 6-8 weeks post op before even trying a plank! And, modify on your knees to start or use a table or wall to build up your strength. Guest guest
Hmmmm... can I blame the 2 c-sections I had on why my lower abs are so wimpy?? The last c-section was 10 years ago...! :-) Re: Planks ?To: exercisevideos Date: Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 4:52 AM Does anyone know how to regain abdominal strength after the hysterectomy. Guest guest
Thanks. I searched online, they made it sound like it heals many health issues.
Its weird. I had a C-Section 26 years ago. I remember doing crunches a few months after and I developed this ball on my lower right side. I thought it was a tumor. I went to the doctor and he had me do a sit up in his office and then chuckled. He said I had created a big ball of muscle in that area where they put the muscles back together? I can't remember exactly how he worded it. The thing is, when I would have my period it would hurt SO BAD. It eventually got to where it didn't bother me anymore, but it took years. I can still feel it a little bit, but not a lot. He told me he could go in and fix it, but I said that was OK, I'd pass. I think planks would be good, but I could see you feeling a lot of pulling in the tummy. What about lower ab raises with your feet extended? I think you need to try different things and do what makes you feel the best. Also, get advice from your doctor. ~*´¨¸ *.• ´¸.•*´¨ ¸.•*¨ .•´ ¸ .*
Guest guest
Hi Caitlin! Any of the Ana Brett / Ravi Singh dvds will go through it.  It's easy to start but can be difficult to sustain, at least for me.  Like Stacey said, it just takes practice, like anything. I love Kundalini, I feel so good afterward!  Some people feel uncomfortable with the chanting and spiritual aspects of it but I find it quite healing!Sut Nam,

Guest guest
Your abdominal muscles were probably cut, mine were. You just have to keep working them. Doing planks is suppose to be a great way to trim your stomach, according to the show "The Doctors." Guest guest
My incision for my hysterectomy went from way down there straight up and around my belly button. I can hardly see it now (had surgery in 2007) except around my belly button. My Surgeon was AWESOME! Guest guest
it is only one of many breaths used in kundalini...and i would say yes it is highly beneficial. i take a kundalini class almost every week. after class i always feel balanced and calm. stacey
Guest guest
nancy, you could certainly blame the c-sections!! i had 4 children and can say that area is one of my weakest but i can also say it is possible to strengthen it with patience and work. stacey > > > > Subject: Re: Planks ? > To: exercisevideos > Date: Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 4:52 AM > > > > Does anyone know how to regain abdominal strength after the hysterectomy. Guest guest
Aw, thanks so much, Stacey! This really did make me feel better! I'd never thought about it until I read these conversations! And yes, I definitely agree they can be strengthened and it is one of my goals for this year to do just that (and I just thought of that but I really do mean it)! My DH was doing them the other night and telling me how "easy" lower ab crunches were (I can't remember the right name). He's not nearly in as good shape as I am so I assumed he was doing them wrong but he wasn't, his lower abs are just a lot stronger than mine. I gotta get better at it so I can be as good at them as he is! :-) Re: Planks ?> To: exercisevideos > Date: Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 4:52 AM> > > > Does anyone know how to regain abdominal strength after the hysterectomy.
