I've used old, simple treadmills to high tech treadmills and gues what - they are all equally boring and are pretty much just big rubber bands going round and round on a conveyer

Ugh, you hit it right on the head. They do take up a lot of space, that's what was saying. The doctor told him he needs to loose weight and I asked him if he'd use one and he said "hell no" lol.

Since we're talking about treadmills I have to share with you guys this about my dad.

He will be 70 in April and he mows like 40 yards a week in the summer time. In the winter he gets lazy and sits around and cat naps all day. A few months back, around fall, every time I called him he was napping. I told him that wasn't good for him and that he needed to do SOMETHING. He started talking about a treadmill and my daughter had one she wasn't using, so she just gave it to him.

He started out just walking and would stay on it for 30 minutes. Now, after I'd say a month and half maybe, he's on it for an hour EVERY DAY and this morning he told me that he was finding the walking to be easy now and that he jogged for a minute on it yesterday lol. I am so proud of him.

The thing is....the treadmill he's using is a piece of junk. The only thing it tells him is the time and he said the belt slips and its super noisy. I told him to go get a new one. The new ones have programs on them. He would love that because he said he gets a kick out watching his time. He does this in his garage where he has NOTHING to look at. I can't believe he doesn't get bored, but he says he doesn't at all. He said he doesn't want to buy a new one because he's afraid in time he will get bored with it and not get on it and spending the money for a new one might be a waste. I told him I don't believe he's going to stop using it, especially after the comment he made today. He said he feels like he has to get on it everyday now, almost like eating lol.

I've been wanting to share this with you guys because I'm so darn proud of my almost 70 year old dad for staying on that old junky treadmill in his garage for an hour EVERYDAY. Whata man!!!!!

, that is so inspiring about your dad!  People like him that use the treadmill SHOULD have a nice one!  I hope you can convince him he's worth a good one.  What's wrong with a nice used one from Craigslist?  Resolutionists get rid of them all the time.

Not only do the fancy ones have the different courses, some can also auto adjust to make sure you're always in your training zone too.

I don't like them either. I'd rather spend the $ on swell new socks & sneakers.

Yeah , don't waste your $.  I've used old, simple treadmills to high tech treadmills and gues what - they are all equally boring and are pretty much just big rubber bands going round and round on a conveyer.  They take up a ton of space and you can find them used all the time because people buy them in January, never use them and realize they are the most boring machines on the planet.

I envy those that like them, and I don't mind doing them at the gym to fill in gaps but you're getting PLENTY of cardio in with your step workouts and kickboxing, HIIT with Cathe, etc.Hugs!

brief cardio walking on treadmill:  almost 15 minutes, 100 calories burned at 3.5 speed, incline of 2.  Walking on it isn't so bad, but running on it just bores me to tears.

The wheels in my head started turning when my dad was thinking about getting one.  I'm glad I didn't go any further with it.  My daughter works out at a gym and she uses the treadmills and the elliptical and says they are both boring and I'm sure she's not on either very long.

Good job with your workout.

I know. I told him all of that, but he's such a tight a%s that he says he wants to wait until he starts mowing in the spring and see how often he uses it. He says he'll probably be too tired to use it. I told him he'd have it for when he isn't mowing, but he won't budge.

hi michelle!

it takes a special kind of person to do that... the same kind

who can mow 40 lawns a week!!! your dad rocks! maybe your

dad can get a new-to-him-used treadmill, i bet there are people

wanting to sell theirs because they dont use it... some will sell

really cheap just to free up the floor space.
