Guest guest
Great walking, Carolyn! I love the names of your walks but the pigs sound really yucky (I love pigs too so especially what you saw sounds awful). PY day 24 walking for project you day 24 i got in quite a bit of walking.walked in glorious weather with chinook for over an hour. decided to take a mixed up route today so we did 'see our friends', then started on 'big dog-go the other way' but saw that the pig farm we had to pass had a bin heaped with dead pigs at the side of the road. i didnt want a closer look at that horror show, so we immediately turned around (chinook didnt want to) and headed down 'to the chicken farm'. got to the shorthorns' barn (halfway to the chicken farm) and turned around for home.now is the time of year to see all of the junk that falls off trucks or people toss (snow is gone and grass/weeds havent grown up yet). i actually saw an old sink in the ditch along with various other garbage, which is sad.but oh ive seen lots of items over the years... clothes, shoes, hubcaps, cases of beer bottles and liquor bottles, a bottle of prescription pills (which was scary), tools, and of course stupid tim hortons coffee cups.after that i went out into the yard and cleaned the branches and such from my gardens. i still need to trim old stuff from my peonies... will do that tomorrow.still alot of branches in the yard... we will have a big bonfire soon.after that i did more walking at the mall and grocery store. got around 14K steps today so im happy with that. i did not do my PY pilates and yoga, i promise to make it up tomorrow :: cross heart :::*carolyn. Guest guest
I like hearing about your walks too, Carolyn, and yes... sad about the pigs. Things like this make me want to return to veganism sometimes. I feel very guilty eating meat, even the " humanely " killed hormone free kind. Does the junk on the side of the road ever get picked up, Cola Pop?I do envy your country walks. I don't get out into Nature nearly enough! 14K steps is wonderful! for project you day 24 i got in quite a bit of walking. walked in glorious weather with chinook for over an hour. decided to take a mixed up route today so we did 'see our friends', then started on 'big dog-go the other way' but saw that the pig farm we had to pass had a bin heaped with dead pigs at the side of the road. i didnt want a closer look at that horror show, so we immediately turned around (chinook didnt want to) and headed down 'to the chicken farm'. got to the shorthorns' barn (halfway to the chicken farm) and turned around for home. now is the time of year to see all of the junk that falls off trucks or people toss (snow is gone and grass/weeds havent grown up yet). i actually saw an old sink in the ditch along with various other garbage, which is sad. but oh ive seen lots of items over the years... clothes, shoes, hubcaps, cases of beer bottles and liquor bottles, a bottle of prescription pills (which was scary), tools, and of course stupid tim hortons coffee cups. after that i went out into the yard and cleaned the branches and such from my gardens. i still need to trim old stuff from my peonies... will do that tomorrow. still alot of branches in the yard... we will have a big bonfire soon. after that i did more walking at the mall and grocery store. got around 14K steps today so im happy with that. i did not do my PY pilates and yoga, i promise to make it up tomorrow :: cross heart :: :*carolyn. Guest guest
Aww, that is sad about the pigs! I've been eating vegan for 9 months, and don't think I can ever go back now. Hearing things like that helps confirm it in my mind. Plus all the junk that gets tossed or dropped outdoors is a shame, too. I wish I could be out in the country and walking or running. When I walk/run right now, it's always on my treadmill. Maybe someday, I'll have a nice place to walk outdoors. I think I'm vitamin D deprived, lol. I do take supplements, but really need to get out more. But I enjoy hearing about your experiences; thanks for sharing! Guest guest
thanks ronda! and everyone! living in the country i see alot of things that i dont want to see! i could say more about the livestock but i dont want to upset my friends here. lets just say that a farmer who has hundreds of pigs (or cattle) in a huge barn does not want to see a single dead animal any more than we do ($$$) and one tip - do not be caught walking on the road when the deadstock truck is making its pickups... it is the grossest thing ever. :*c. Guest guest
Being a former farm girl myself, it's true the farmer doesn't want any dead animals! If a domestic meat animal dies outside of licensed butchering facility, it cannot be sold as meat. This includes injuries, as well as sickness. And yes, the rendering truck is a very disgusting, but vital service. It really hurts to see your pet pony or horse be taken away in that manner...but what do you do when one dies? I hate to be the odd one out, but I enjoy eating meat a lot, I've done home butchering, and I even hunt for venison when I can. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Your walks always sound interesting! I would be sad/upset about the pigs and the garbage, though. Hey - what is Tim Horton's coffee like? Apparently, we can get it here at Wegmans! I have heard you talk about it so much, I want to try it - but I'm really picky about coffee -so I'm worried about not liking it - oh well, I guess you have to try and take a chance, huh?Donna Subject: PY day 24 walkingTo: "ExercisevideosYahoogroups (DOT) Com" <exercisevideos >Date: Wednesday, March 14, 2012, 9:58 PM for project you day 24 i got in quite a bit of walking.walked in glorious weather with chinook for over an hour. decided to take a mixed up route today so we did 'see our friends', then started on 'big dog-go the other way' but saw that the pig farm we had to pass had a bin heaped with dead pigs at the side of the road. i didnt want a closer look at that horror show, so we immediately turned around (chinook didnt want to) and headed down 'to the chicken farm'. got to the shorthorns' barn (halfway to the chicken farm) and turned around for home.now is the time of year to see all of the junk that falls off trucks or people toss (snow is gone and grass/weeds havent grown up yet). i actually saw an old sink in the ditch along with various other garbage, which is sad.but oh ive seen lots of items over the years... clothes, shoes, hubcaps, cases of beer bottles and liquor bottles, a bottle of prescription pills (which was scary), tools, and of course stupid tim hortons coffee cups.after that i went out into the yard and cleaned the branches and such from my gardens. i still need to trim old stuff from my peonies... will do that tomorrow.still alot of branches in the yard... we will have a big bonfire soon.after that i did more walking at the mall and grocery store. got around 14K steps today so im happy with that. i did not do my PY pilates and yoga, i promise to make it up tomorrow :: cross heart :::*carolyn. Guest guest
> Hey - what is Tim Horton's coffee like? hugely popular. you can get a 'flavour shot' put in if you like.... a small shot doesnt have any extra calories. and you can ask for milk instead of cream. im a splenda user so i also get that instead of sugar. they have lots of specialty drinks but i stay away from those except for a small english toffee cappuccino as a treat at times. the USA menu and nutrition numbers are at http://www.timhortons.com/us/pdf/nutrition-guide-us.pdf :*carolyn.
