Guest guest
Hi , You may want to ask your doctor about " Leflunomide " I take it with " Methotrexate " and it has been a miracle for me when I felt all was lost when " Remicade " gave me hives. Hang In There > > Hi. My name is and I am 36 and was diagnosed with RA about 8 months ago. I am also a single mother to 6 children ( well one of them is my granddaughter that I have custody of). I also am a full time student taking 6 classes and I have my own business cleaning houses. I am also very very tired and in the most pain I have ever been in thus far. I even called to make my next appointment with my doctor sooner, which I never ever do. At the moment I take Methotrexate and folic acid. I am not sure it is working anymore and if he increases the dose I am afraid I will get sick again. The last time I was so sick I became dehydrated and needed to go to the hospital (I have no time for such things). Any ideas other than Humira ( my doctor will not use ), that has worked for you all? Thanks for listening to someone you do not even know. Shalom, who needs to chase a two year old back to bed : ) > >
Guest guest
Welcome to the group, ! Why won't your doctor use Humira? Is he a rheumatologist? Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hi, thanks for the help. I will ask about this. He let me take another round of a steroid, but will not let me have long term due to the weight gain issues. Guest guest
, It is because of the cost and the insurance always gives him a hard time about it. The funny thing is that it is making my mother crazy, as she works for the company that makes this drug as a reasercher and loves what they have " found " (to her it is a miracle drug LOL). My doctor is in fact a rhemutologist and is supposed to be one of the best at what he does.Shalom, --------- [ ] New and needing to vent > Hi. Guest guest
, I suppose he won't consider Enbrel either for similar reasons. Maybe it's time to seek a second opinion? Guest guest
To me denying a patient meds that could help prevent permenent crippling damage and deformity is mal-practice...or at least poor judgement because he is too lazy to deal with the insurance company. I would find a new doc. I would also report him to the medical board as well as insurance board. I would also let him know how I feel about him telling me that. Hmmm....I wonder if I my heart stopped in his office would he consider it too much trouble to do CPR to save my life until the paramedics come? Sorry be so graphic...but I hate docs like this. I had a rheummy that stopped my Arava..because it was not working at the lower dosage..and I later found out that he did not want to have to wrote all those lab slips for me tohave bloodwork every two weeks...and he did not want to have to deal with tracking my liver enzymes. So he just stopped the med and did not even try a higher dose. This was the ONLY med I was on that had NO side effects for me. Do you know if you insurance covers the Biologics and what is the procedure to getting them? I would do my homework. You maybe able to get the insurance company to call him. There is also financial assistance programs. Humira has one that covers up to $300 a month for six months towards the cost. There is nothing your doctor has to do for that one except give you the Humira Share package which is distributed to rheummy's by the drug reps...unless he does not allow them to come to his practice. Then you call and activate the card. Its like an insurance card. I got tons of freebie promo and samples from my doc. All the Biologic drug companies have there own packages of info. Please do not allow a lazy doc to leave you suffering in pain. Remeber you are your own advocate for care. Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to the group - you will find the most caring and compassionate, supportive people here, and lots of great information from our moderators. This is place to come where everyone really understands what you are going through, and there is lots of personal RA experience to share. Wow, do you have a full plate - I got tired just reading all that you have to do lol. What are you majoring in? Where do you find the time for everything??? Has your doctor considered use of Enbrel? I am on that, as well as Mtx, and it is working very well for me. I also take Mobic (anti-inflammatory) and Ultracet for pain. --- momto3and3@... wrote: > Hi.
