Guest guest
Hi All.... As most know...I am mainly just a lurker...I read, but don't post often. I have been nursing a broken foot since March, and finally am in my last week of being in a cast. I broke the 5th metatarsal right up against the ankle. Yeah..ouch!!! It has taken so long to heal because of the location...not a lot of blood gets to that area and the bone is slow in healing. My problem has been that my right leg, and more specifically, my right hip..that I have RA in...has me in such pain it is really tough for me to walk much...even with my walker! ( Yeah..okay..lets not go there...I really do feel old having to use a walker...you know..one with the tennis balls duct taped to the feet!!!) My Rhuemy Doc says my RA is doing wonderfully and it is not a flare up. More than likely it is the muscles in my leg are stressed out from over-compensating for the left leg. I asked him how, since I have been in PT the whole time to help strengthen my right leg and to keep my left leg from getting too weak. Any ideas from anyone??? Guest guest
Hi Larry. Sorry to hear about the broken foot. That hurts, a lot!! I get a lot of stress fractures to my right foot. Broken feet just suck!! It could very well be what your doc said it is. Even though you are in PT for strengthing, you are probably stressing your right hip by walking differently because of the fractured foot. Thing is, you may not even be aware of the way you are walking. I say this because I am having a similar issue with my right hip. My re-injured my right knee and since the injury I have noticed that my right hip and right foot have been killing me to the point that even my pain meds don't do much. I have also been doing PT for all my joints, especially my hip. But, the more I'm up and around, the worse it feels. Hang in there. Give it time. What could be happening is that the muscles are tightening up from the way you walk which in turn makes the joint hurt. Hot packs work wonders, hot tubs even more so!! Hope you get to feeling better soon!! Take care, Marina : > > Hi All.... > ..... Doc says my RA is doing wonderfully and it is not a flare up.
