Guest guest
Kathy, I'm glad you asked this question. I'm new on this board and have been just soaking in as much information as possible to understand what is happening to me, what to expect, etc. I too have been diagnosed recently (3mo now) My Dr has had me on methatrexate and so far no change, symptoms have only gotten worse. I was suppose to start Humira last week, but my jaw swelled up huge. It was the gland. my cheek tissue was also quite swollen. I was in alot of pain and was even having problems eating. I couldn't see my normal Dr so had to see a physician assistant who insisted it had to be something viral and dismissed it. The swelling has finally gone down, but I still occasionally have pain in the lymph nodes just below that area. I too have wondered it it was a side effect of the methatrexate or the RA itself, or as the PA said, not related. I'm am getting my first humira injection tomorrow and hoping for some relief soon. I appreciate the posts on this board and am happy to have found you all. Sabra [ ] RA and perotid glands/jaw Hey everyone! I was diagnosed just this summer with RA, and I'm still just getting aquainted with my disease. Anyone else have problems with their jaws and perotid (sp?) glands? My glands just in front of my ears swell up and hurt like all get out periodically, and my jaws feel stiff. It even hurts to sleep on either side when this happens. I'm also having very dry skin, but don't know if this is part of RA or not. My hands and feet are the more " regular " problem areas. Kathy B. Guest guest
-Sabra, It's not a reaction to meds. I've had this going on for 3-4 yrs. I saw Family Dr. and ENT Dr. Nobody could figure it out. I was just diagnosed with RA this June and started Methatrexate in July. I feel like a big chipmunk! Guest guest
My jaw always has problems in that spot. My rheumy said it was TMJ, and not due to the arthritis, but I had just read an article about jaw problems in Arthritis today (which he writes for!). I have a great Rheumy but he shrugs off alot, especially if he thinks he can't help it beyond what he's doing. Since plates aren't covered by my insurance, he suggested hot compresses. That does work as well as trigger point massage in those sopots. DO you have sinus problems? Because that all seems to be connected for me. AGain, if I massage in those areas it hurts like hell but feels better the next day. > > Hey everyone!
