Guest guest
Hi all, I think it is time for me to explain my rather lengthy absence. As some of you may or may not know, I was diagnosed, eight years ago with AML, a very acute form of Leukemia. My absence was due to the fact that I needed a bone marrow transplant and a suitable donor just happened to be found. Prior to transplant, I had to undergo total body radiation. This destroyed the old bone marrow so that the new marrow could be put in. It hasn't been a picnic, I can assure you. I am still in the hospital and will be here for a good while longer. The main thing is, I'm getting stronger every day and my blood levels are where they should be. Just wanted to say hi to everyone and explain why I've been away. I didn't tell the lists before due to personal reasons. It's kind of... Scary? Well, I better quit before my strength runs out. Go Well All, Yan
Guest guest
Yan, I had been wondering where you were, since you hadn't posted in quite some time. I am glad that you were able to get a bone marrow transplant. I hope that your leukemia will be a thing of the past. I can only imagine what total body radiation does to a person. I had 35 radiation treatments following breast cancer surgery, but I managed very well throughout the process. I certainly was glad to have it over and done with, though. I'm glad that you're getting stronger every day, and hope the healing process takes place at a rapid rate. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Do keep us posted.
