Guest guest
I have been on Plaqenil for over 6 months and have had no side effects that I've noticed. Between that and the Prednisone and Imuran I am pretty much pain free. The only side effect is the weight gain from the Pred, and when the dosage goes up, I don't sleep well. Right now it's 3:15 in the a.m. LOL, that's the large dose of Pred that I finished yesterday, now I'll go back down to 2 mg in an effort to get off it entirely. Don't be afraid to try a drug because of it's side effects, you may never have a problem with it. I was on plaquenal until 60 days ago. I hated the side effects. The whole body rash as well as gastro problems prevent me from starting it again. Now that I am off it I realize how beneficial it was. At this moment I am in a major flare up. I can not cut my meat, brush my teelh, hook a bra. I am considering a nursing home at 58 years !!!! I was just put on prednisone for the 5th time. It usually works. I do not want to be a burden for my children. I will see my arthritis physicain next week. I need to get more tests this week. My mother had hepatitis during world war 2 and passed it on to me. Many of the miracle meds are contraindicated with liver damage. Any suggestions????? Guest guest
I'm in the same situation with Plaquenil. My rheumy prescribed it for me several weeks ago and it's sitting in my cabinet waiting for me to take. I've recently been switched from another med to the generic form, and I'm having bad diarrhea and stomach cramping, also feels like my ulcer is returning. Sooooo...I don't want to take the plaquenil until I get these problems taken care of. Have strarted on the Nexium again for the gastritis. Argh...it's always something ;-) I guess you just need to accept that it will always be something, take care of yourself and do your best to have a sense of humor about it. Sometimes when things are so bad you and others can't face reality together, humor can really work wonders. Guest guest
I have been on Plaquinel for appx 7+ months. At first the side effects were a bit of a problem, but in time they got to be less of a problem, I guess my body got used to it. I just treated symptoms. I used an OTC anti fungal cream for the rashes. I used cornstarch everywhere skin touched skin, and I lived on Imodium, and Gasex when I (or the people around me) needed. I also took acidophilus capsules every night. At the time the fact that I was starting to see improvement made the side effects less of an issue. I was just so thankful to have some relief. Talk to your doctor, maybe breaking the dose up might help. I am on two pills a day and sometimes when I have a med like that I take one in the am and one in the pm and it helps some. Hang in there, maybe your body will get used to the med and the side effects won't be so bad. Lynn [ ] terrified Hello, I was diagnosed with OA and RA 5 years ago. Guest guest
I am somewhat of a lurker on this site but i wanted to let you know I had a good experience on plaquenil, I was on it for 2 years before I decided to get pregnant and had to go off of it. I never had any stomach side effects, rash or eye problems (my husband is an eye doctor and said that they chance of it occuring is very rare) I felt a lot better on it than off. I only had a few times when the pain would return for a few weeks out of the year. I plan on going back on it after I deliver. Good luck >From: " REBECCA COHEN " <blondie10@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Re: [ ] terrified- Plaquenil >Date: Wed, 4 Oct 2006 15:45:36 -0400 > >Thanks for the advice, I plan on trying it on my next visit to my doc. > > > Cohen >blondie10@... >rcohen1@... > > > [ ] terrified > > Hello, > > I was diagnosed with OA and RA 5 years ago. Guest guest
I have been on plaquenil now for 2 years. I don't have any of the side effects. It has helped my hips and my hands but my shoulders still give me a problem. I also take 5mg. of prednisone. The combination of the meds keeps me going. I am not having as many flairs. It is the fibromyalgia which goves me a hard time. I went today and got a cortisone shot in my shoulder blade for the first time in my life. I hope it works. Doctor said it would take 2 to 3 days to take effect. Good luck everyone and God Bless. Pam --- In , " Lynn Burrell " <lnburrell@...> wrote: > > I have been on Plaquinel for appx 7+ months.
