Guest guest
Angie, While I'm sorry you've got a fracture, I'm glad that it has been found and is being taken care of! The camowalker isn't bad, I had one when I broke my ankle. At least you can bathe, and scratch! Hoping you heal quickly, Judi

Guest guest
a, How long would you have to be on predisone for it to cause this problem Just wondering if that is why I ended up with a fracture but I have only been on it since july and I just take 5 milligrams a day. Do you know what else can cause these the doctor didn't really say all he said is the pressure of being on my feet all day. Thanks Angie > > > > > I went back to the ortho today for a check of my foot. Guest guest
Angie, I doubt the prednisone is the cause of your stress fractures with that dose since July. Everyone is different as far as how long it takes for prednisone to weaken bones. One person on our list has been on high doses of prednisone for several years and has great bone density. Someone else I know was on close to the same dose for about 6 months and it destroyed his hips. Not everyone has the same side effects. Are you a runner? They are predisposed to stress fractures. Have you had a bone density test to see if you have osteoporosis? There are some anatomical factors that predispose people to stress fractures: Pronated feet (flat feet), Rigid pes cavus (foot with a very high stiff arch), varus knee alignment (bowlegged at the knees), and leg length discrepancies (when one leg is longer than the other leg). http://www.louisvillebones.com/stressfractures.html a On Apr 7, 2005, at 9:31 PM, along302003 wrote: > > a, > How long would you have to be on predisone for it to cause this > problem Just wondering if that is why I ended up with a fracture > but I have only been on it since july and I just take 5 milligrams a > day. Guest guest
Last year I had both eyes done. I have been taking 5mg Prednisone every day for 5 years, just never associated it with the cataracts. In Ontario, it is fast becoming a popular practice, to have cataracts removed when patients are having problems seeing and want them done and have scrapped the idea that cataracts have to be " ripe " before removing. Of course this has created another problem of longer waiting times. There are still a lot of doctors that make their patients wait even though they cannot see well enough to drive, and, of course, there are those that continue to drive in spite of the fact they cannot see. When a patients' eyes get that bad, the doctor is supposed to take their driver's license but very few do. Hugs June ----- Original Message ----- From: " kenneth samuelsen " <squarehead52@...> Hi, a! Guest guest
June, Most people that start taking steroids don't know that cataracts are a side effect. Most aren't told of any of the side effects even though they are so serious. Many here would never have started them had they known they wouldn't be able to quit taking them and that they could cause such serious problems. It's terrible to make people wait until they are almost blind! It's not like they will go away on their own. They will have to pay for it at some point, so why make patients be half blind until they decide it's time? a On Apr 8, 2005, at 9:51 AM, June Dixon wrote: > Last year I had both eyes done. Guest guest
a, I was just fortunate to be sent to this surgeon since there are still a great number telling their patients they have to wait until their cataracts were ready. I had no idea that Prednisone could cause this problem. I am now taking 5mg one day and 2.5 mg next day in an effort to get off this med. Guest guest
June, I'm glad your cataracts were taken care of you you weren't put off. There are many ways to do a prednisone taper. What did your doctor say about it? You've been on prednisone for quite a while, so it may take a long time to completely wean off them. Good luck June. I know it is very painful to go through this while you wait for your adrenal glands to start producing your own steroids again. a On Apr 10, 2005, at 8:54 AM, June Dixon wrote: > a, I was just fortunate to be sent to this surgeon since there are > still a great number telling their patients they have to wait until > their cataracts were ready. Guest guest
Hi guys I wrote a last week about my foot pain I saw the ortho yesterday and he says it still has the same stress fracture as last time. THat has been a year and a half I wore the camowalker for 6 months last time He wants it back on me for about a month this time and then if I still have issues he is referring me to a foot specialist. He says surgery is probably what I will need done My problem is my pain is getting worse and I am trying to figure out if I should wait the month or call now and try to get in It hurt so bad at work today and still is throbbing. Thanks for any support and answers Thanks Angie
