Guest guest
I assume that, getting the flu shot or not would depend on how much medication one is on. It's a judgment call. a Papola <a54@...> wrote: , You will find varying opinions on getting flu shots when you have an autoimmune disease. Many say they get them every year and many won't ever get one. I fall in the later category because I feel it is one more thing our sick immune system has to deal with. Talk to your doctor about it and see what they say. a On Mar 17, 2006, at 10:46 PM, wrote: > On another note... > > Should those with RA get a flu shot? > > Thx > > >
Guest guest
I think overall health should be taken into consideration. Believe it or not, I've never had the flu. I've had my share of colds and chronic bronchitis when I was a smoker, but I haven't had a cold in many years. Maybe if I had gotten the flu as many times as some of use here, I'd be standing in line at my doctor's door. I'm just the type that if I had to do it over again with my kids, they wouldn't have gotten many of the vaccinations that they got. Every time my kids got vaccinated, they got sick. The internet wasn't available then so I didn't have access to the studies that I have now. Maybe it's a good thing. I'd have been more neurotic than I am LOL! But at least now with all the publicity, the mercury has been removed from most of their vaccines. One thing that really gets my goat is that although research shows that people over 65 don't make the antibodies to the flu shot, meaning the shot is useless to them, they are still being pushed to get the shot. This makes no sense to me and it makes me wonder if it isn't just for financial reasons. There is also questions about whether or not our RA meds interfere with our ability to make antibodies. There are also many reports of the flu shot causing autoimmune diseases. But there are as many reports of the flu causing autoimmune disease. But since flu like symptoms are common with flares, I wonder how one would know. There is just so many unanswered questions. If they ever find the cause of these autoimmune diseases, these puzzles would be solved. Until then we just have to do what is best for us. No one should let someone else's opinion decide what's best for them. Your doctor will be the best person to help you make the decision. a On Mar 18, 2006, at 7:26 PM, C.
