,

This is something you will have to discuss with your rheumatologist.

In this study a meta-analysis was done on 138 randomized trials involving

NSAIDs (both traditional and COX-2) conducted from 1966 through 2005 and a

total of 145, 373 subjects.

The authors conclude that, compared to placebo, there is increased

cardiovascular risk with COX-2s (mostly MI) and with high-dose ibuprofen

(800 mg 3 times per day) and diclofenac (75 mg two times per day) but not

with naproxen (500 mg 2 times per day).

For the actual numbers, here is the study journal article:

BMJ

2006;332:1302-1308

" Do selective cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitors and traditional non-steroidal

anti-inflammatory drugs increase the risk of atherothrombosis? Meta-analysis

of randomised trials " :

Reuters Health article on the study:

Given that individuals will have different baseline risk factors and that

there is also a risk in not reducing the inflammatory burden of RA, your

physician is the best one to decide which NSAID, if any, and at what dose is

safe for you.
