Guest guest
I have a friend who has PR, but she's not on the list. She is on prednisone, and goes to the same rheumatologist that I do. I don't know whether we have anyone in the group who has it or not. But, anyway, welcome. This is a wonderful support group for all autoimmune diseases. a and , our moderators, post lots of information to keep us educated. Guest guest
That would be me - I was dx'ed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica a little over two years ago, it's been almost 3 years exactly since I started having symptoms. My rheumy started me off with 20 mgs of prednisone, apparently that's pretty standard with PMR. He pretty quickly dropped the prednisone to 15 and added Methorexate, I take 20mgs orally once a week. About a year ago, my sed rate dropped back into the normal range, but I continued to have a lot of pain and inflamtion in my back and my knees. He added a dx of Fibromyalgia, but I think at that time, it also became clear that what I have isn't straight PMR, but some non-specific auto-immune disorder. The inflammation in my left knee continued to get worse, even a cortisone injection didn't help for long. So in July I started on Humira, which is working very well for me. I still have a lot of aches and pains, but at least I can put off knee surgery for a while. (The inflammation and swelling was so bad at once point that it caused a small tear in the meniscus to became a complex tear, and twisted the cartilage under the ligaments.) I was actaully able to get down on the floor yesterday and play with my grandchildren! And I'm down to 5mg of prednisone, hoping to get weaned off of it completely over the next few months. I've never even heard of antibiotic therapy for PMR, only for RA. I wish you good luck with it!
