Guest guest
Hi, I just joined the group today. I have a dificiency of both calcium and vit D. I take supplements daily for it. I was told my para-thyroid glands don't function normally. Before being put on vit D supplements, I was going into seizures more than 3 times a month. Never occured to me that Vit D could help RA. I have progressive RA, what ever that is. I have been on Methotrexate since 1998 I believe and have been on Remicade infusions since Nov of 2004. I personally don't think it is helping. But then, for all I know my RA could have gotten farther than it was. Anyone else on Remicade? I had my vitamin D checked when I switched Rheumies in August. It was 1.8ng/ml which is considered ctically low. I have been in 50,000units of Vitamin D once a week for the past 8 weeks and will be retested at 12 weeks. I didn't realize it was related to RA and inflamation in particular. I thought it was just a random thing that came up. Very interesting. Does anyone else have a defiency? in St. Louis

I have a book " Arthritis Reverse Underlying Causes of Arthritis with Clinically Proven Alternative Therapies " By Eugene Zampieron on Pages 283-284 he talks about the importance of Vitamin D. He states that researchers at the Brigham and Women's Hospital studies 30 women with acute hip fractures and found 50% were deficient in vitamin D. (JAMA 281 April 28, 1999). The author of the book is an advocate of 20 minutes of sun a day, fair skin a little less, dark skin longer. I have read that in other place too. Vit D from the sun also helps with depression. Ok, before everyone freaks out about skin cancer, that's about how much you burn. No you don't want to burn, but we need natural sunlight, it's the way we were created. Guest guest
Hi, Debbie. My name is Kathy. Can't remember if I ever introduced myself to the group. I have progressing RA that doesn't seem to be getting better, Hypo-Parathyroidism, Diabetes type I (JD), and all the good stuff that happens to diabetics (still have full function of both kidneys, [YAY!]). At the time I have been taking Methotrexate and on Remicade infusions for my RA. I'm on Calcitriol (Rocaltrol) for my parathyroidism for life. I also have Osteopenia and Osteo-arthritis. Good luck on the new med. Anyone on Remicade? [ ] Re: Vitamin D Lowers Inflammation 2/28/04 Hi, Because my parathyroids don't work, I take rx Vit D called Rocaltrol in varied doses. When my insurance changes to BCBS in Jan, I will have to switch to ergocalciferol. Is anyone on that? My bone density test this year showed I have osteopenia, which is bone loss. I do take calcium 500mg 5x day and magnesium 400mg 3x day. Debbie L
Guest guest
Thank you Debbie! No, don't belong to HPTH group. Just learned about this group, the paradigmpumpers group, and type I diabetes group just recently. At least, now, I don't feel alone any more, having all these medical problems. I'm sorry to hear about your parathyroid glands also, and fibro. Back in 1980, when I started to go into seizures, drs thought the reason was from low blood sugars, and didn't find out about the Hypo-parathyroidism until 1992. Didn't stop having seizures until Jan. 2000. My level stayed so low didn't think it would ever come up. Good luck Debbie. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Been there , done that. My calcium level usually would get down to around 3.8 - 5.1 . Always ended me up in the hospital for about 5 days. So I know how scared you get. So far so good thou, my last calcium test showed 8.5. You don't know how relieved I was! And thank you again and God Bless. Keep your chin up... Hugs, Kathy [ ] Re: Vitamin D Lowers Inflammation 2/28/04 > > > > > > > > > >
