Guest guest
Wow Dennis, Sorry to hear about the food stamp issue. I substitute teach in my local school district in central texas. Substitute teachers here make between $8.5 and $13 an hour for 7.5 to 8 hr work day...depending on if you have duty and such. That is teaching 5 classes a day with a planning period and lunch included. I make good money when I sub...its sad that your school district pay is soo low. However I now work from home and I make less than I did when I subbed per day....but I do less walking and there is no transportation to and from work and I work when I want too! LOL You should think about working from home. Betty, my bride of '42 YEARS TODAY', just got her/our food stamps today. We are going to get an entire SUV full of popcorn, as long as it's popped, that is. TEN WHOLE DOLLARS! I'm so excited I can hardly type the good news. They didn't tell whether it's for a week, a month, or a year. Care to guess which one? It's a good thing elections will be soon. Another subject a few of you may be able to answer. One of my goals is to substitute teach at local schools to help with spending money. A full day's teaching is worth $5.15/hour. I'll have to be really careful not to go over the limit, wouldn't you. How are the wages in other parts of the country? Guest guest
Dennis, Here in Southern California, Riverside County it depends on what school district you substitute for. The local district closest to my home, where my daughter is a tenured teacher, pays around $120.00 per Diem, perhaps more. I would have to talk to her to get the exact amount, but I remember she telling me last year or the year before what the district paid for substitutes. It could be more since the district has given two pay raises since I last talked to her about substitute pay. If you are a long term substitute, continuous service in the same classroom for the same teacher, they pay as follows, 1st ten days $120.00 per Diem the 11Th day forward $130.00 per Diem. Hours are 8:00am to 3:00pm. The other districts around where I live pay pretty much the same rate of pay. I hope this info helped you. P.S. Not long ago there was an article in our local paper that reported school districts in all of Riverside County were in great need of substitute teachers. Guest guest
I've thought about working from home but I can't type very well and can't stay at it for long at a time. What other types of work don't require typing at over 60 words a minute? I can hold my own up to about 50 WPM, but that's not good enough. If there is a job I can do, I don't know about it. Guest guest
in Utah in my county substitutes get paid 52.50 a day. I'm thinking of going back to substituting to help out also. I enjoy the special education classes the most. Robin in Utah Re: [ ] Have stocks in Texas? Don't forget CA has a higher cost of living. Guest guest
It's for the month I'm afraid. Sorry to hear that's all you were given. However, it's what my 84 yo grandmother receives as well since she stopped working at 78 yo. I check on her often to make sure she is not starving over there. That amount is really silly. She worked so hard all of her life. I try not to think about it or I will become stressed out about it. I just try to do what I can. She is very religious and God has made a way for us all these years, so I believe she will be okay and you will too. Happy anniversary to you both! peace, Ebony > > If you do, here's a bit of news to help you make your stock's manipulations > tomorrow. Guest guest
Happy Anniversary, Dennis! Sounds like the love is still a flowing, which is wonderful to see. My hubby and I just made 23 years, so we have a ways to go to get to where you two lovebirds are! Enjoy your popcorn - hope it has extra butter! Guest guest
Dennis, This job requires little typing beyond basic address info. The rest of it is click and go. I love it. I do more talking than anything else. And because I set my own schedule in 30 min work blocks I can schedule my own breaks or choose not to work as long as I cancel one hour before I am to begin work. Today I was busy and so I only worked 3.5 hrs...normally I work 4 hrs during the week and 8-12 hrs a day on weekends. Since I was getting tired tonight I canceled my last 30 min block of work. Guest guest
Ebony, Can you take her to food banks or food warehouses in her area? Usually seniors also qualify for meals on wheels or senior community center meals at low rate per meal or free. There are numerous food banks in this area that the many senior communities bring the residents by the van load. The senior community centers in my area also get USDA commodities which they pass out as well as fresh produce which local stores donate to feel the elderly. Another option is the Angel Food Ministries. I do not know if its available in your area but you get a box of fresh food you order once a month for $25. It changes each month and there are also specials you can order with a box for less than $20. You can order as many boxes as you want and as long as you order at least one box you can get as many specials as you want. Here is there website: _www.angelfoodministries.org_ (http://www.angelfoodministries.org) You can check and see if you have a participating church in your area. I know in my area one of the churches near me has had the program grow so fast that tractor trailer trucks!! now come to bring the food..which church volunteers box and distribute.
