Rick:

Welcome to the group. If you are having pain and

swelling, and your RA factor is high positive, then RA

IS already affecting you. I don't understand your

doctor saying that it will take years for it to do so.

Nobody can predict what an individual's disease

progress or outcome will be, as far as I know. Yes,

the Ibuprophen can often cause more stomach problems.

I took Motrin for about 3 years, and then had to stop

because it was basically eating away the lining of my

stomach, causing me daily heartburn. I now take Mobic

which is supposed to be a little less harmful to the

stomach, seems to be not causing me any problems, but

I need some sort of anti-inflammatory.

Also, an anti-inflammatory is doing nothing to control

or try to stop the progression of the RA disease.

This disease could be destroying your joints, and also

affecting other organs like your heart and lungs. All

connective tissue throughout your body can be affected

by RA. In my opinion, you need to be put on a DMARD,

disease modifying drug, as soon as possible. The best

way to treat RA is by aggressive early treatment. You

need to find a rheumatologist ASAP and start the

proper treatment. Best of luck - hang in there -

Rick:

Good advice from Kathe in CA. I was on anti-inflammatory meds for a while. I

did not do a thing for the inflammation, but, lucky me, I ended up with a heart

attack, thank you very much. I found a good rheumy, I am taking minimum doses

of Mxt and steroids. I am now doing great.

Hang in there, it does not always have to be bad.

Take care.
