Guest guest
I know a bit about this topic, but as with other things governed by individual insurance and State laws, the information may not reflect the experience you have. Medicare has this rule: If you are able to ambulate 10ft in your home, you do not qualify for a power wheelchair. Also Medicare is set to restrict the power wheelchair laws and coverage as of 01/07. hHttp://www.usatoday.com/news/health/ 2006-10-19-medicare-wheelchairs_x.htm If you have private insurance and you are seeking an accommodation for work there are a few more possibilities. You can contact your human resources dept and discuss your situation. It sounds to me like a power wheelchair would be a reasonable accommodation for your job. This is covered by the employment section in the ADA, but will be a battle for you and you may not want to go there... Another possibility is to contact your department of rehabilitaiton services in you city. Their purpose is to provide people with disabilities means with which to maintain or obtain gainful employment. Again, use of a scooter is necessary for you to continue your employment, therefore they should be able to help you. They have the funding to provide the wheelchair/scooter, but they may require a contribution from you or the employer. Stating that you need a power chair for your employment is not usaully sufficient for coverage by medical insurance. Please let me know if you have any questions I'll try to help. peace, River
