Guest guest
Hi, I am a lurker here and rarely post, but wanted to mention the prescription card I recently heard about and acquired. It is " Scriptsave " and there is no charge for it. You can call 1-800-700-3957 to sign up for it or go online at www.scriptsaver.com [i think} If all else fails try to google it for the website. It is honored at all our major grocery chains as well as Wal-mart, K-mart, Sams Club and I believe Target also. They off $5.00 generic drugs and 35% to 50% off on name brand. I have no stake in this card and am not endorsing anything so please don't mistake this for spam. I have been dealing with my RA for about 5 years and have no insurance and income disqualifies me for most assistance. I will be 65 in January and hope the medicare at least helps with doctors'/tests costs. I've been studying the Medicare Part D plans and I am 100% unimpressed with what they will do for anyone except the insurance companies. I haven't tried my new scriptsaver card yet but am hoping it will help some! All this is just my two cents worth:-). Pain-free days for everyone! Guest guest
Dennis A growing number of people are saving money at the Canadian pharmacies. Compare at http://www.Canpharm.com and see if they are cheaper. Another source for comparison is: http://www.pharmacychecker.com/Pricing.asp?DrugId=18556 & DrugStrengthId=30282. This site lets you compare international pharmacies. Oh, and do not forget to vote on November 7th. Guest guest
We've been buying Betty's meds at CanadaDrug.com for a few years. It's really too expensive in the states. So, yes, we know about places to purchase and save money. My problem is that I'm paying $88+ a month for Medicare that's going up to about $94 in January, then almost $20 a month for Part D premiums, and lost some vital meds from the formulary. That's where my problem and questions start. I'm not looking for another place to buy, just trying to get what I need within the system as it is now and will be next year. Guest guest
Dennis, I know you are in Texas but HEB is rolling out there program on October 25th and will have 700-800 drugs on there plan. So I went to there web site but not list as of yet. I got the list for wal-mart. Also Kmart has a program as well which allows you to get a 90 days supply of many generic and brand name drugs for $15. I am still trying to get the list and info from them. Either way both are cheaper than the copays I pay for my prescriptions now. This will save me a bunch of money and I might even be able to afford to take my meds now! LOL My oldest daughter is in college and she takes two meds a day that are generics...so kmart is a good deal for her. Our healthplan CIGNA charges $10 copay for generic drugs...we have to pay the $10 even if the drug cost less than $10...so we discovered after many months that they have been ripping us off. Guest guest
It's easy to fall into the traps of 'Big Business'. You are obliged to pay the co-pay, no matter what the cost of the medicine is. So far, I love what's happening to the pharmaceuticals since Part D came about. It seems to be throwing the entire system a curve that they can't catch. Betty's meds have been very expensive except for a few that she gets mail-ordered large amounts for a $20 fee. The rest she uses adds up to about $250-300. If things keep going as they are, we can all afford to be well. Wouldn't that be something? Guest guest
Dennis, is there a way to get out of the Prescription Part D? I had better medicine insurance before taking Part D. There was no limit to what I had. Joyce from Texas Re: [ ] Part D and $4 WalMart We've been buying Betty's meds at CanadaDrug.com for a few years. It's really too expensive in the states. Guest guest
Dennis, How close are you to Mexico. I live in Arizona and EVERYONE goes to Mexico for their meds here.(Unless they have really great insurance). You can bring back a 90 day supply of some meds. 30 days on others. I have seen people buying tylenol #3 over the counter. and I have bought Soma...for those months when I run out just a couple of days before the end of the month and its a narcotic., you do not need a prescription, most of the meds are made in the US and labeled in english. Occasionally someone get arrested by the Mexican police...like usually kids who go over there to buy soma, a muscle relaxant which is a controlled drug here...but the many people I know have never had a problem. I have wondered why they are having such a fit over people ordering from Canada ...WHy are they so concerned with the quality of the meds from Canada when you can go to a third world country and buy meds in a foreign language and walk across the border with them..nd sometimes they do't even ask what you bought!.another double standard perhaps?? jenna When you lose a loved one, you gain an angel whos' name you know ! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Jenna, It boils down to money! The drug company sell drugs cheaper in Canada because the way things are structured there. They sell higher here because they can get away with it. They are the same drugs. You can legaly import a three month supply of NON controlled substances. You can not legally import controlled substances. I figure Mexico wants the money so they turn away when an adult purchases those drugs. The quality issue from Canada is propaganda. They are praying on people that don't understand it is same company making the same product in Canada or even Mexico, but for less. Guest guest
Maybe writing to legislators or your state representatives about the medication situation you are experiencing might help but in the meantime, the scriptsaver card mentioned by another poster sounds nice and I guess worth looking into. I don't see another way by what you are describing. More and more people are having to choose between the electricity bill and their meds or take meds sparingly to stretch them. This is really sad you are having such a time with healthcare and paying for prescriptions. I thought Medicare was the answer. Medicare is working for my grandmother but then she is not chronically ill as we are and doesn't need many meds. So maybe it is the answer if you age without developing chronic illnesses. She is just slowing down from old age at 84. She does have problems with buying eyeglass prescription, however. She has worked all of her life and didn't stop until she was 78 years old. I thought I would have the same luxury and assumed most people were healthy until 70s or 80s. Boy was I wrong to make that assumption, but i had hoped since she worked hard all of her life she would at least be in a place to afford eyeglasses. not everyone is able to put aside a nest egg or be able to use it as planned. Aren't you a veteran? Does being a vet. make it any easier with healthcare purchases? or does the help depend on your income? wishing you the best. peace, Ebony
Guest guest
--- Excuse me....I think it depends on the drug, not the country. As an American living in Ontario and on their drug plan. The drug Enbrel, which I'm on, costs $1,641.44 per month Can. dollars. plus or minus the exchange rate and you won't find it cheeper. BTW, That price is for the one shot per week type. Also their is no quality issue. What do you mean quality? It's all the same drug. " In the United States, it is co-marketed by Amgen and Wyeth under the trade name Enbrel®. " " Etanercept was developed by researchers at biotechnology company Immunex, which was subsequently purchased by Amgen. It was released in 1999, soon after the release of infliximab (Remicade) – the first chimeric monoclonal antibody against TNF & #945; to be marketed for clinical use. " Now Mexico, is a different story altogether, it could be fake. I'm NOT saying it is, but I for sure would NOT inject anything coming from Mexico........period. Guest guest
Sorry, Ebony. I meant to answer this post sooner, but you know how that goes. Since Betty has applied for disability, the DHS put her in for food stamps and Medicade. Of course, the Medicade was turned down because we have too many 'resources'. We're limited to $3000, and Betty's 401K is more than that. She was, however, approved for food stamps, which was a surprise. But, there was a greater surprise when we got the mail yesterday. She gets a whole $10 in food stamps per month! we're so excited, WOW! I've tried to work something with the VA but I wasn't wounded or disabled while I was in the USAF, so that's out. The only thing I've been eligible for was a loan to go to school, and that was in the mid 90's My daughter says I need to write a 'living Will' and turn everything over to the Grandkids. I don't know how that works, but without some control from me, I'm afraid it will be squandered quickly. I guess I need to learn more about it. Guest guest
Dennis. Google " Living Trusts " for the info on protecting assets. A living will is used to specify last wishes should you become incapacitated " il faut d'abord durer " Hemingway Re: [ ] Re: Part D and $4 WalMart > Sorry, Ebony. Guest guest
Dennis, do you mean a Living Trust? A Living Will is a document where a person doesn't want to be kept alive by artificial means. A Living Trust is where you sign a paper where your benificiary or benificiaries get whatever you choose them to get when you die. I signed a Living Trust over to my son. He is my only living child. Now you can change your Living Trust anytime you chose that is if you want too. And by the way, you won't have to go to a lawyer to do this. You just have to have it notarized.
