Guest guest
Our daughter will not take any medicine willingly...we usuallly have to crush everything and hide it in her food. We are now trying to get her to take Omeprazole Liquid that tastes terrible. Anybody have any ideas...we have tried having the pharmacist flavor it, she won't drink it in juice, or in applesauce. I wish our insurance would let us get the prevacid solutabs like we used to...so much easier!! Thanks, Lorra
Guest guest
if you can not get the meds into her that should be a reason for them to approve a med they normally would not. Have you tried appealing their denial of the solutabs?Ruby Our daughter will not take any medicine willingly...we usuallly have to crush everything and hide it in her food. Guest guest
when danny was taking nutrivene powder, I hid it in cinnamon flavored applesauce. I just mixed in in a couple of teaspoons, so he wouldn't have to take much. vanilla flavoring also worked well to mask the taste. would your insurance company pay for it if you doctor wrote a note to them explaining why it works better for her to have the solutabs? You can appeal any insurance decision, and sometimes you win;-) might be worth a shot, if you haven't already gone that route. Guest guest
I do not know if this will help, but we crush everything for a tube. The solutabs were $97/month. So our doctor told us we could use the OTC version. I cut open the tabs and crush it with everything else. I have used zegrid and generic Omeprazole from cvs and walmart. The zegrid is already powder and it has baking soda with it, so it will bubble with applesauce just a little bit. The generic Omeprazole has the same solutab granuels in the capsule, but it has part of it in a tiny white tablet that I just crush. The capsule is harder to open than a regular capsule, so I use scissors. You just have to be careful you don't spray the powder all over the room when you cut into it, so hold it down in a cup when cutting. We were on the 15mg and he said it was no problem going up to the 20mg. Phoebe weighs 43 lbs.Even though ours goes through a tube, I would think it could be mixed in the food. I have heard people mixing it with cake icing.
