Guest guest
It sounds like she is extremely sensory seeking orally. Have you tried offering vibration like z-vibe or jigglers? What about something like this? http://funandfunction.com/cool-chews-butterfly-p-1653.html There is a little hole through it so you could make a necklace for her. My son has always been sensory seeking orally and I have found craniosacral therapy to be helpful and also his OT is working with him using the Masgutova technique. hth Lorianne I am having a hard time keeping Phoebe from putting her face and mouth on everything in public spaces. She is seven, but has issues with an immune system that is very susceptible to infections. I have to find someway to control this because it is affecting her health in a bad way. I just do not know what to do about it. At home it dos not affect her. But anytime I take her out, it is mouth on the counter tops, I cannot even trust her to walk in a hall with trash cans because as soon as I am not looking she has her mouth on it! I know this sounds completely gross but I need to tell someone that might can help us!! We sit in a waiting room and the mouth goes on the arm rests. I take her to the bathroom with me so I can pee and the mouth goes on the railings or the counter top! I cannot even wash my own hands because I am trying to corral her mouth. We get on an elevator and her mouth goes on the hand rails. In the doctor's office she wants to roll on the floor or lick the walls and I come off as a complete wacko mom who loses her mind trying to make it stop!! It is completely frustrating and I feel like I am just banging my head on a wall because no amount of correction helps. She is still putting her hands completely in her mouth and if Im not looking the feet go in her mouth too. Shoes and all. She gravitates to the most germ filled thing as possible to chew on!! I have got to get this under control and if there is anything therapy related to address this behavior I sure would appreciate it. Insect repellent seems to taste nasty enough to make her stop on the fingers for awhile, but once she gets it rubbed off, she is sucking her entire hand into her mouth. She also chews the neckline off of every shirt she has. :( A very frustrated Phoebe's mom, julie
Guest guest
Those look like they may work. thank you. I have tried the baby teethers of all kinds but so far nothing has grabbed her attention. I even got some amber beads that I heard was the Au-natural teether. I am sure part of the problem is that she does not eat by mouth. I will have to ask about the Masgutova. Going to explore the website! It sounds like she is extremely sensory seeking orally. Have you tried offering vibration like z-vibe or jigglers? Guest guest
I also recommend jigglers, oral vibration, etc. Since she's not eating, you could also increase the stim by using a Nuk type toothbrush and dipping it in highly flavored food juices such as pickles, sauerkraut, mustard, etc. (if she can tolerate drips) She may not be looking for stim, but exploring the new environment. It's such a great way to learn due to the large number of sensitive nerve endings. Is she, by chance, visually or hearing impaired? You may need to work with OT to teach her an appropriate way to gather that info and then give her a chewy to keep her mouth busy. Good luck, Christy
Guest guest
I also saw improvement with Masgutova, talk tools (daily oral exercises) and chewy tubes. Our OT also uses craniosacral therapy.Whenever we skip the oral therapy, he goes back to the mouthing behavior! It will work for her - trust us!Good luck, mom to Vito (turning 2 years old in June)Enviado via iPadEm May 6, 2012, Ã s 22:30, Dinkins escreveu: Those look like they may work. thank you.
