Guest guest
reposting this clinical trial by Roche with some comments. The trial is for boosting of cognitive performance of persons with DS by administering a GABA antagonist (turns down GABA). Gee, some of us have already been doing this a long time. Ginkgo Biloba is a natural GABA antagonist, BUT here's how I understand it. Unlike a drug (which has to be dosed carefully and monitored) Ginkgo does not totally block GABA just some of it. GABA is overexpressed in our kids, and needs to be turned down. But GABA is totally necessary in the synapses as you know, or else the neuron is left defenseless against overexcitability (which damages or kills the neuron). According to Cody's presentation, GABA receptors are everywhere! Thanks from the DSTNI list for this. <http://www.roche-trials.com/trialDetailsGet.action?studyNumber=BP25543 & diseaseCategoryId=266>I put this out there for informational purposes only. Personally, I'm not a big fan of pharmaceutical companies or their drugs, so I'll stick with Ginkgo Biloba (standardized extract, Honeycombs liquid brand) for our kiddo. Yet, this trial does give huge credence to those of us supplementing with Ginkgo B already. Take notice, the Buckleys of the world (I don't mean to attack....he and DSEI I must believe are good people in their own way, yet have vigorously taking every opportunity to discourage parents from any sort of Nutritional or herbal therapy, TNI, CMP, anything "unproven" - even harsh words for Neurodevelopmental therapy, etc. I wonder if they'll change their tune when the drug becomes an "approved therapy" meaning it is controlled by doctors, and makes yet another corporation, this time Roche, a bunch of money). GB Doesn't make the drug companies rich. Works great. I can control exact dosage with the dropper (there are 3.3 mg active GB per drop. Dosage is 5.5 mg per kg body weight, one, two or three times a day). And, GB has like a 5,000 year safety and efficacy record of usage here in China with Traditional Chinese Medicine. best,Liora PearlmanMom to Etel age 3y3m (on GB since 13 months)
