She might appeal to the leadership/board to ask special permission for a specific swim aide. Shirley [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Off topic. Life best n swim club A friend belongs to a private swim club. They do not allow anything except goggles in the pool. She feels this is unreasonable due to her sons disability. She feels it discriminatory? Anyone deal with anything like this? Guest guest
Alison:This is a private club opened to the public (members) correct? The members are from the general public correct? If the members come from the general public population, the answer is "yes" it is against the law to discriminate against a person who is disabled. If the private club is for a specific group, for example healthy adults between age x and age y, then no it is not against the law. Nevertheless if it is open to the private members only, a private member may be a special needs person, then the club can not by law discriminate against anyone.Check with a special needs attorney or disability lawyer.Jo-Anne To: "DSTNI " <DSTNI > Cc: "beijing_organic_consumers " <beijing_organic_consumers >; Beijing Mamas <beijing_mamas >; einstein syndrome ; dstni leichtman <DSTNI >; DS Infoexchange <DownSyndromeInfoExchange >; gfcf <GFCFKids >; "Educate-Yourself_Forum " <Educate-Yourself_Forum > Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 1:18 PM Subject: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Off topic.
