Guest guest
Hi , You might want to try a paraffin (sp) bath. They aren't very expensive and sometimes they are on sale at a place like Walmart, or Walgreens. I have found them to be very helpful with my hands. Just be careful with the kids around...the wax gets hot. Patsy El Mirage, AZ DX 2005 Stage 1 PBC AIH/SLE/RA/COPD
Guest guest
Hi , Just a thought, I wear wrist guards on both of my hands and wrists, and they seem to help me much better to operate the steering wheel. Just need to make sure they have the metal bar on the palm side of guards. Good luck to you. Kathy [ ] Driving with RA How do you all handle driving with RA? Guest guest
I also drive with thumb and hand supports. They help a lot. We also put a " ball " on the steering wheel. They are available in auto stores for under ten dollars. Good luck. Guest guest
One of the first things I did was to get large diameter foam grips for the motorcycle and large diameter foam steering wheel cover. They helped me a lot. I think we've discussed steering knobs before. They have been illegal in some states, but you should be able to use them for 'medical' reasons anyhow. The only thing that will help you more is to have a driver so you can sit in the back seat and say, " Home, " . Guest guest
Hi , Well, all I can say as a newly diagnosed RA patient, that even before diagnosis, I was having terrible pain in my fingers and wrists that I thought was from previous medical conditions, ie:bones died in my wrist and had to have them removed. Long story short, I have a lot of pain when I drive, so I wear a wrist support on each wrist. It doesn't help the fingers, but it does help the wrists. I wouldn't be able to drive otherwise. Maybe getting wrist supports would ease some of the discomfort you have when driving. Hope this helps, take care, Les > > > How do you all handle driving with RA? Guest guest
Hi , I grew up in NYC and walked everywhere -- until I was dx'd with RA and moved to an area in Virginia where I had to learn to drive. It was hard, but I've been driving for 6 years now. Be careful about taking the Darvocet and driving. I know it makes me a little woozy.
