Hi ,

You might want to try a paraffin (sp) bath. They aren't very expensive and

sometimes they are on sale at a place like Walmart, or Walgreens. I have found

them to be very helpful with my hands. Just be careful with the kids

around...the wax gets hot.

Hi ,

Just a thought, I wear wrist guards on both of my hands and wrists, and they

seem to help me much better to operate the steering wheel. Just need to make

sure they have the metal bar on the palm side of guards. Good luck to you.

How do you all handle driving with RA? I am just learning to drive and its

taking a toll on me. :( My hands are so sore and swollen i dont know what to

do. Already took my prednisone for the morning along with 2 darvocet and still

nothing...Figures, always on a weekend when the doc cant be reached. lol

thanks in advance!

I also drive with thumb and hand supports. They help a lot. We also put a

" ball " on the steering wheel. They are available in auto stores for under ten

dollars. Good luck.

One of the first things I did was to get large diameter foam grips for the

motorcycle and large diameter foam steering wheel cover. They helped me a

lot. I think we've discussed steering knobs before. They have been illegal

in some states, but you should be able to use them for 'medical' reasons

anyhow.

The only thing that will help you more is to have a driver so you can sit in

the back seat and say, " Home, " . LOL

Hi ,

Well, all I can say as a newly diagnosed RA patient, that even before

diagnosis, I was having terrible pain in my fingers and wrists that I

thought was from previous medical conditions, ie:bones died in my

wrist and had to have them removed. Long story short, I have a lot of

pain when I drive, so I wear a wrist support on each wrist. It

doesn't help the fingers, but it does help the wrists. I wouldn't be

able to drive otherwise.

Maybe getting wrist supports would ease some of the discomfort you

have when driving.

Hope this helps,

take care,

Les

Hi ,

I grew up in NYC and walked everywhere -- until I was dx'd with RA and

moved to an area in Virginia where I had to learn to drive. It was hard, but

I've been driving for 6 years now. Be careful about taking the Darvocet and

driving. I know it makes me a little woozy.

Take care,
