Guest guest
Makes sense. I found out I had hep c about 20 yrs ago when I volunteered as a bone marrow donor. Up until this past year I have been really healthy. My younger bro has colon cancer, so my dr suggested I be followed up too. That turned into a colonoscopy every four months. Then I had my gall bladder removed so I asked the surgeon if he would bx my liver while I was knocked out. (I hear bx hurt like he!!). This dr said he was from So Ca and had done liver transplants. That Dr said my liver actually looked great considering my length of dx and saw no damage other than " some fatty pockets " . My GP ran labs and all was normal other than my VL was 400mil IU. So here I am today. I cannot express my gratitude to all of you for listening, understand our fears and sharing your journey. You can feel the love on this group. An insight to all - the opposite of fear is LOVE! In the short time I've been hear I've seen a lot of soothed hearts. Guest guest
And I have found through lobbying here in CA or DC that unless they are directly affected, they play interested. Autism is a great example: once it began showing up in the families of elected officials were they willing to listen, including CDC. You hit the nail on the head Sheena. Guest guest
Hmmmmmm keeping Don out of trouble. Now why does that amuse me?? Just kidding Don, ya know we love you. I imagine there is websites like the CDC that has the numbers of infection. We don't keep track of it here because well we believe that information, education and support is a whole lot more important than numbers. Heck I used to keep track of how many members we have here. But so many join and leave without saying a word, just read for a while I guess. And that is okay with me, because at least we are getting the information out. I would like to think that we are one of the best sites on the net. I could be wrong, but in my heart I know we are reaching folks. Anyway, might just look that up for you on the CDC site. I am going to look up some research this evening anyway, since hubbie is watching Football!! I want to research the hotel that I work at. Love Janet "There are souls in this world that have the gift of finding joy everywhere and of leaving it behind them when they go" Frederick Faber Im sorry but this has been bugging me. Has anyone kept track of who, and how many folks with Hep C have come here? Here comes the morbid part, sorry, but I am really courious, and would like to get a picture of this Hep C thing. [While I can still grasp such things.] How many have fought off Hep C successfully with and w/o TX here. And how many here are in the various stages of the dragon, again here? And how many has the dragon taken, here? And doesnt the govt care? Or is it a case of getting rid of undesireables, and former undesireables. Seems to me this should be headline news....CNN, FOX, etc. Mr Lou Dobbs. I asked the same questions about AIDs years ago. That was the fire I was concerned about playing with. I wasnt even aware of Hep C until a couple of years ago, and never dreamed it would reach out and grab me. Anyway, was just sitting here wondering... ..stuff. Not much else to do. love don in kansas
Guest guest
There is a group that sponsers an anual march on DC every year , they march to raise awareness of Hep C . Re: CANT HELP BUT WONDER Has there been a group yet that has set a (inter) National Hep C Day? We have FASDay - on Sept 9, to raise awareness for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Sept 9 was chosen so we can remind our world 9 months no alcohol. We also have NOFAS that puts Hill Day together in DC and we go in and educate our legislature on why more funding is needed for treatment for moms-not incarceration, education, and to support the individual with prenatal exposure. We also hit cable tv for a half hour segment, get local and state proclamations. Letters to the editor of newspaper, etc. I think I went on to long! (I can ramble) Some ? Guest guest
Agreed, but always remember what made us aware. The damned Disease! I sure didn't know anything about HCV until diagnosis, and there's no way Docs, Govs, etc. will know without more immediate contact and knowledge. Re: CANT HELP BUT WONDER I agree - I don't trust most doctors, gov. agencies, etc. And when you google "deaths from hepatitis c" you will find thousands of conflicting statistics, facts and figures, etc. There is still much work to be done in raising awareness of our disease.
