Hi Rainy,

I agree with you. I just had two surgeries for my eyes. He told me the

cataracts came from the predisone. I am now off the predisone. There is a

major difference in how I feel. Much more pain but I had to get off of it.

I was lucky not everyone can get off predisone. It is the drug we love to

hate. Also no one told me all that could happen.

Hope you feel better soon. Do you have to have surgery.

[ ] Prednisone CAUSES cataracts

This I know personally. I was diagnosed about a week ago with cataracts in

both eyes, I'm only 37. I've been on the prednisone for 24 years, did anyone

tell me this could mess up my eyes? No. Only that the prednisone would cause

osteo, which it has. And that the RA could mess with my eyes, which it

hasn't.

So, people, get off the stuff or lower it if you can. I am so mad at all

my doctors. Thankfully, I can work on lowering it and getting off, fat

chance of that. But by lowering it you can slow or stop more damage.

Prednisone was responsible for my father's cataracts, too, Rainy. It's also

happened to numerous people in our group.

Yeah, that's high for me. I only take 10 mg.. and I consider that high, at least

for me. I have a friend who was only doing 3 mg. I am going to work on lowering

what I take now to slow the damage in my eyes. I would love to get off it, but I

don't think that will happen.

What is your diagnosis? What are you taking that for?

Hi :

60 mg. of Prednisone is a very high dose, but I have

heard of people starting this high before. I am

hoping that your doctor does not keep you on this high

of a dose for too long, and that he is tapering you

off the Prednisone little by little. Do not stop the

Prednisone all of a sudden, it must be tapered down.

I have used Prednisone on and off ever since my

initial dx of RA, and have been on as high as 30 mg.

for several weeks in the beginning, and now I try not

to take it unless it is very necessary, and then only

for a very short burst. Take care -

What had me scratching my head was the time involved as it seemed it was down

the road maybe years. So I didn't understand just what you were talking about.

Everyone I know has had that happen shortly after the lenses are implanted. It

is a " nothing " procedure to do in the office.
