Guest guest
well i haven't heard anything yet so i don't think it is looking too promising. Interview wasn't too bad but not exactly great either, got myself worked up and fumbled over the questions but until they ring who knows. for those who asked i work in childcare - this job is in a school and a change from working in a privately owned nursery as i do now. Thanks all for your prayers and kind words - will let you know what happens xxxx --------------------------------- All new " The new Interface is stunning in its simplicity and ease of use. Guest guest
I'm a parent of an asperger's kid and a special ed teacher. This is what I think about the subject. GO TAKE AS MANY CLASSES IN AUTISM AS YOU CAN. Don't try to learn about autism on the fly in another class. " Suggestions " of how to deal with them does not properly educate a teacher to deal with these kids. One class will not do it either. Take as many formal classes as you can IN AUTISM, get as much classroom experience as you can, don't think they are all the same because the truth is they are all different. There is no one strategy that works with autistic kids. You will need a bag of tricks and it will need to be constantly growing. You will never be " finished " with your education but will need to stay up to date on all current research. Most of all LISTEN TO THE PARENTS of your students because they know that child better than anyone else. Give them lots of opportunities to let them help you. Don't push them around or boss them around. Just LISTEN and LEARN. That is the best advice I could give you as a parent AND as a teacher. Guest guest
Thank-you Becky!! I am still working away!! I have so much great information, I just need to organize all of it. I think the most common thing everyone has said about their child and the schools is that teachers are not taking the time to understand the disability. Teachers are mis-interpreting the child's behavior, because all these kids look like typical kids. Educators are not understanding that parents are doing the best they can, and educators are accusing them of not disciplining. Boy, I can not wait to have my own students and apply so much of this valuable information all of these parents have shared. I cannot understand (being a parent of 3), and in the teaching profession why a teacher would not apply any valuable information to help these kids reach their full potential. It makes me sad. I hope for the best for you and your 10 year old. (Thats the age group that I worked with for 9 years) as a teacher assist. Enjoy it before the teen years kick in.I have 3 without aspergers, and boy what a roller coaster!! Ha! Good Luck RB -- ph W.
