Guest guest
PLEASE be very careful with the HUMIRA. I had a near death experience with pneumonia caused by my usage of Humira and was told now that I can no longer take any biologics. Please be very cautious. Sometimes I think we are being used as guinea pigs. There is a warning about the infections and cancer right on the info packet that comes with your Humira so I definitely think it should be taken seriously. I decided being crippled up was better than being dead. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi Tracie, I don't take Humira, and don't know what it is. But I do have thyroid cancer. Guest guest
This is absolutely true. I have had by far reactions to NSAIDS than Humira type medications. Mobic gave me AWFUL, emergency room worthy headaches. I had a cat scan and MRI due to those headaches but when I ran out of it for a few days my headaches went away. Its replacement was Arthotec which caused some sort of uterine bleeding. I would bleed between cycles and Christmas Eve I was cramping so bad it brought tears to my eyes. Turned out I was losing blood and had to go to the ER. I was in shock. No one had thought the spotting was a big deal. You just get use to thinking of script NSAIDS as strong Tylenol, that it is like popping candy. Tylenol and aspirin can cause death if you are allergic. Food allergies, just touching some can cause deadly reactions. The point is you don't know until you try. Every day is an adventure and you can't go overboard with worry. When you know the risks you do have to be cautious and watch for the signs. It shouldn't consume you though. Shandi Re: [ ] Re: Cancer & Humira Tracie I took Humeri for over a year with no problems. I think we all have reactions to different things sometimes it is drugs. I had kidney failure from a simple anti-inflammatory drug called mobic! So who knows, I guess we all have to decide for ourselves if it is worth the risk. in WI We Made Changes Your email is all new. Guest guest
, My daughter takes Humira and MTX weekly to combat her RA. She is functioning at a fully normal level now and we have these drugs to thank. Based on the speed at which her disease was progressing, I have every reason to believe she would be in a wheelchair today if she were not taking these drugs. She is 12 years old. Here is how her rheumatologist explained the cancer risk in these drugs. Everyone in the world has basically a 1% of getting cancer. Some have a slightly higher risk because of family background. When you are diagnosed with RA, you now have about a 2.5 or 3% chance of getting cancer. Just having this disease in the first place increases your risk of cancer some time in your future. When you start taking these meds, you increase your risk to 3.5 to 4% chance. Your risk only increases very slightly by taking the drugs based on research. However, it does increase. Knowing this and knowing the rate at which your disease is progressing is the key to deciding how concerned you should be. Hope that helps.
