HI

I Took tamoxifen for 5 years following breast cancer surgery.

The known side affects from it are: sweating, weight gain, hot flushes,

dizziness,

I was told to take mine in the evening before going to bed so I wouldnt

suffer with the side affects to much and it did work doing that.

I am not sure about any interaction it has with other meds. It would be best

to ask the oncologist about that.

Good luck

I meant to post a lot sooner than this, but I have been having a

really bad time the last few weeks. My docs all put it down to

stress, as I've had a lot of that lately! Not just the medical stuff,

but my son and his wife are about to lose their house to foreclosure,

and may have to file for bankruptcy. Right now, he's furious with me

because we won't help anymore - but we stand to lose about $30,000 on

the second mortgage we hold on their house and there just isn't going

to be any more right now.

I wanted to let everyone know that I had a needle biopsy on the lump

in my right breast. The dx was Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia, which is

an abnormal growth in the lining of the ducts, and is benign - at

least at first. It can eventually change and become malignant, but

usually takes 10-15 years. They want to remove now. So, I need to go

in for a breast MRI (waiting for good 'ol Blue Cross to get around to

approving it! I guess I shouldn't complain, should be glad that I

have good insurance, but they sure do know how to increase your stress

levels . . .). The surgeon wants the MRI to make sure they're not

missing anything.

After the surgery, I have to go see an oncologist for a consultation,

because ADH also increases your risk for breast cancer. My surgeon

and my PCP both tell me that I'll probably have to stop using

estrogen, and start taking Tamoxifen (did I spell that right?)

I'm a little concerned about the estrogen either way. I sure don't

want to increase my cancer risk, but I started it after my

hysterectomy, and am not looking forward to dealing with menopause

symptoms right now.

Anyone here know anything about Tamoxifen? Wondering what side

effects it will have, and what effect it might have on my PMR, FMR,

and diabetes. And if I'm going to have to worry about interactions

with my other meds.

I read the posts here and I really shouldn't complain, because at

least I've got good insurance and a really supportive family (except

for the one son). I'm just so tired of being in pain and being tired

all the time.

I really do appreciate all the info I've found here.

Thanks,
