OT - help! drug taken off the market

I'm sorry to post such an off topic e-mail, but I'm hoping if I " talk " to enough

people, I will find a solution.

My husband and thousands of other people have been taking a drug called

Lotronex.

This drug was developed for people with diarrhea predominant Irritable Bowel

Syndrome

(IBS). The people for whom the drug was effective, considered it a godsend. It

restored their quality of life. Unfortunately, 5 people died after taking this

drug.

In mine and many other's opinions it was the misuse of the drug and not the

drug

itself that caused this problem. IBS is a very general diagnosis. Some people

with

IBS have chronic diarrhea, others chronic constipation, and others bounce back

and

forth between the two conditions. Unfortunately, some doctors prescribed

Lotronex

for anyone with IBS. Also, some patients never reported the warned side effect

of

constipation to their doctors. Although the deaths were from the misuse of the

drug,

the FDA knee-jerked and forced the manufacturer to pull it from the market.

Thousands

of people are devistated. This was the first and only drug that has ever helped

them control their IBS symptoms. They are terrified to go back to the way their

life was before Lotronex.

I have the name of a woman at the FDA as well as her contact information. I

have

posted this info to the IBS bulletin board in hopes of innudating her with

requests

to rerelease this medication. I hope someone on this group can suggest some

other

courses of action I can take to help get this drug put back on the market.
