Hi Dana,

My mother-in-law takes Fosamax. She says that if you follow the

instructions in the patient information leaflet

you shouldn't get problems with heartburn. You should not lay down

for at least 30 mins. after taking it.

I take Fosamax and it is helping. Annete is right about how to take it. You

can have a choice of taking it once a week or wince a day. I take it once a

week.

You take it first thing in the AM on an empty stomach, drink a full glass of

water and nothing other than water for 30 minutes. In that time you remain

upright. I have a problem with gastric reflux so I am extra careful there. In

addition to the upright position I do not bend, stoop, or anything that could

cause reflux.

I am on Actonel, not because I have osteoporosis, but to prevent it

because I've been on prednisone for so long. My doc chose Actonel for

me because I have a sensitive stomach, and Actonel is supposed to be a

little easier on the stomach.

I follow the directions carefully for the Actonel... Take it on an

empty stomach, with a full glass of water, remain upright and don't

eat or drink for half an hour fater I take it. But doing that way, I

haven't had much of a problem with it. It gave me diarrhea the first

time or two that I took it, but since then, I've had not trouble at

all. And the good news is that my bone density has improved between

my previous scan and the one I had recently, in spite of the

prednisone. So that means that the Actonel is doing its job

protecting my bones!

I'd say that if you have trouble with the Fosamax, maybe you could

talk to your doc about switching to Actonel.
