Guest guest
Wow - I hadn't heard the Alien one, but I have sure heard the elbow thing, I have resorted to say that I have an autoimune disorder, most people don't ask any further and it stops those pity looks. But I agree, it sure makes me mad when someone comes up with something like a zillion bee stings will cure you???? Do they think........ if it would work everyone would try and be free of this mess. Guest guest
I'm afraid that's pretty common. It used to bother me, but now I just laugh as if I just heard a ridiculously funny statement. Sometimes my sarcastic side comes out, and I declare (trying to keep a straight face) that the amazing case or supposed fact ought to be written up in a journal. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
I was dx'd with RA in the last few months also, and I've already given up even mentioning it to most people. The most common response I've gotten is, " Yeah, I know what you're going through. I've got arthritis in my [name a joint]. Getting old sucks, doesn't it? " The other extreme, which is to look at me with such pity that I can see them already seeing me in a wheel chair isn't a whole lot better. It's just easier to grin and bear it (or stay home, if I can't do that) than to try to explain. > > Okay, this may old news to you all, but we are new to this disease. Guest guest
Oh brother. I have been spared all that ridicule ... I would probably just burst out laughing right in their faces. jkgvharden <jkgvharden@...> wrote: Okay, this may old news to you all, but we are new to this disease. Guest guest
I just tell them I will mention it when I talk to my doctor next visit. You just cannot argue with these kinds of people. Guest guest
I think it's important to explain RA whenever we have the chance. The more people know about it the more understanding they are likely to be. (I also think that if we're not for explaining it's o.k. to let it go--it does take energy.)
