Folic acid helps--how much do you take? I didn't lose hair with MTX but

I did with Arava and I know how frightening it is.

I also take MXT, 8 per week, and plaquenil.I haven't had any hair

loss from my head but I

used to take prednisolone and lost most of my body hair so it could

be that is the cause of your problem.

I am sure your Rheumatologist will be able to sort it out for you.

Lupus causes hair loss. My hair was falling out and I thought I was going to be

bald but after the meds started working havent noticed any loss anymore.

I was taking 5 pills a week of MTX and after five months I started

to lose my hair. It is just starting to settle down just a bit and

I have been off the MTX since the end of Aug. I hope it stops

completely soon.

MTX could be the cause of hair loss. It is one of the listed side affects. I

did have a lot of loss when we increased the dosage to 20 mg. I experienced

some loss at

10-15 mg and it started coming out by the hand fulls at 20mg (8 pills). It

was so bad that I reduced the dose back down to 10mg and added enbrel. The loss

slowed way down and now I am getting a full thick head of hair again. I would

be bald by now the was I was loosing it before.

My hair began falling out and breaking off in huge clumps within weeks

of starting on plaquenil. when i was changed to mtx it seemed to stop,

then i was changed to areva and it started again. now i'm not on

anything and it has suddenly started falling out really bad. i'm

waiting for new test results but my new doctor said that this could be

from secondary diseases also, not just meds. the strange part about

mine is that one side of my head is alot worse than the other! Good

Are you taking Folic Acid or Lecovourin along with your MTX? Either

of these help with the side effects from MTX.

My rheumy prescribes Lecouvourin for me which is folinic acid. I take

10mg once a week. I don't really notice any side effects from the

MTX. I'm currently taking 15mg (6 pills) of MTX each week and have

been for about a year now.

I lost lots of hair and my doctor told me to take more folic acid but

still only three pills a week.
