Guest guest
Are we living in a new age of miracles? The much-disparaged rheumatologist returned my call this evening! Of course, I didn't ask him everything I wanted to. I did get some information, though. I asked him about his RA test, and he said it was " one of a number of tests I have. " After that, there was no point in my asking him if the test was really viable. What else would he say but yes? I also asked him about my type of osteoarthrtitis. At first he said there were no types, but I rattled off three names that I'd dug , or rather, googled (ooh, I hate verbing) up. Osteosclerotic occurs in 77 percent of cases, and he agreed that was my type. My number-one question was extent of disability. He said something about filling forms for evaluating my movements. Before I realized we were talking about two different things, I asked him where I could get such form. He said, " From the forms people, " and then we laughed and he said from my physical therapy people. What I was asking was how more disabled I could become, not about being certified as this or that, but what wasn't so funny was that my walking will get worse and that I will eventually be unable to walk at all. I asked him how much time I had on that and he said he couldn't know and couldn't even give me a ball park figure. What I forgot to ask was whether physical therapy can prevent my becoming unable to walk, or will it just slow the process. I think the man deserves another call, and I'll interrogate the PT people about the walking issue.
