Guest guest
Hi Betty I have hypothyroid I am on Synthroid so you are correct maybe she can give the Dr a call and re-check the medication, . These last few days I have tried to research this but as you know any medical area is HUGH. I think there is something wrong with this picture. Synthroid is for hypothyroid and does anyone know if it is ever given for hyperthyroid. I don't think she misunderstood the hyper Vs hypo as she is thin and rapidly loosing weight makes me think it is hyper. Her next dr. apt is next Wed. but I think she may have to see him again before that. I'm going to suggest that she ask a pharmacist Thanks for any input here. Guest guest
Betty, my brother takes Synthroid for hypothyroidism as he has no thyroid activity at all because it was zapped with nuclear radiation when it went out of control with hyperthyroidism. So, I would think your suspicions are correct. I wish your sister luck. The good news is that he has suffered no side effects from being on it for 15 years. By the way, my Rheumy told me that what my brother had was an autoimmune disease also. Guest guest
Betsy, I think my sis and I both have misc autoimmune problems. She went to the doctor today because she was that sick. He told her that he had told her " hypo " but she is sure he had said " hyper " . She is a person that I would place my bets on being correct in the situation. She worked many years in various hospitals and has often been mistaken for a nurse. She is 84 but could easily pass for 65 and is very active. That with the fact that her daughter is " hypo " makes me doubt it was her mistake. He changed her medicines a little but wants her to still take the Synthroid.
