Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have gotten shots in most of my knuckles and one elbow, I have heard and my Dr has said it's not good to get oo many shots of (I think prednisone?) steroids in your joints. But whenever I go to him with a badly swollen joint, he wants to shoot it with steroid. My question is this, right now I have a badly swollen joint in my little finger on my right (dominant) hand. It's really bad in the morning and evening. As soon as the Celebrex kicks in the pain snd some swelling goes away. Last night it was blue in places and the skin was really shiny, very swollen. Will this eventually go away? it's been there about 3 wks (started after I saw rheumy) and has slowly gotten worse. What should I do? get a shot? wait it out? TIA Peace, River
Guest guest
River, in 1991 when my RA was at it's peak, I went to the Rheumy monthly and got multiple shots of Cortisone, sometimes in all the finger joints of one hand or both. There didn't seem to be a limit except that I would start declining some since they were going away anyhow. Recently, I got a number of shots and only once did a doctor have me stay for a few minutes so I didn't have a reaction. I think most controls are because they just don't really know. Whenever you need a shot, take it, there's no reason not to (that I know of)! Guest guest
I have had corticosteroid injections into the palm of my hand for synovitis in my knuckle joint. I was told, and have read, that 3 injections per year, presumably into the same place, is the limit as it can damage the tendons and lead to difficulties later on, or difficulties in the case of surgery on that tendon. I got one injection in May, and then a second one in September. He refused to give me another one in between and tried to deal with the pain by intravenous injection instead. I've had the same with shots into my wrists. He won't do it everytime, but will do it more often than into the tendon.
