Guest guest
Hi, Tracie, that's what my doctor told me, too, when I had shingles. Long before I even knew the meaning of auto immune! I was 28 at the time, and thought I had poison ivy on my face and scalp because we had been camping. That was almost 30 years ago, and I haven't had a recurrence, although I did have some slight eye damage, I've had dry eyes ever since. My doc did say that shingles are rare bu do happen in younger people but that it usually is as bad, the older you are, the worse the shingles usually are. My sister had shingles recently, and her doctor gave her an antiviral, Hers went away pretty quickly and weren't bad at all. He said you have to get the antiviral at the very beginning for it to work, so everyone, if you think you might have shingles, call you doc immediately! I was told when I had shingles that it was like a reactivation of the chickenpox virus or something and that you cannot get shingles unless you have had chickenpox. Anybody else hear this from the doctor? Having an autoimmune disease also weakens the immune system and makes you more susceptible to getting things like shingles. They are NOT any fun either. I thought only OLD people got them, was I ever wrong! > > Tracie > -- South Pasadena, CA See my galleries! - http://www.pbase.com/arenared986
Guest guest
OMGosh! I got chicken pox from my 3 year old daughter when I was 28 and pregnant too! I woke up with spots on Christmas morning - LOL But I was only in my first trimester. That baby is now 18 and the furthest thing from mellow that you have ever seen! But I didn't take any Benadryl. If I'd have thought that would make for a mellow child, I sure would have Colette
Guest guest
My son was 2.5 when I gave birth to my daughter. My husband took him to daycare. When he came to take me and the baby home my son was in the car, bouncing as kids did before seat restraints. As I sat down holding the baby he climbed over the seat and landed in my lap. My first moments were trying to get my husband to take him off me and the baby. Then I looked at him and couldn't believe what I saw. Chicken Pox!! And asked why he had not told me. My husband said he didn't know anything about chicken pox but he had put him the the tub and tried to scour off those dirty little sores. That day and the day before he was in daycare and they hadn't said anything either. Unbelievable! But at any rate he was not sick. And the new baby, I was told would not get them because I had had them she would have immunity. Sure enough she didn't get them. When the mumps came around they were bad enough to more than compensate for the easy chicken pox. Oh the good ol days. BVan (Betty [ ] Re: chicken pox? I too got chickenpox for the first time as an adult. My daughter gave them to me at the ripe old age of 27 and I was also 5 months pregnant with my son.
