Guest guest
Agnes I've tried it and it does nothing for me but some people do find it helpful. I would definitely arrange to " try before you buy " so you can see whether or not it will help you before you make the investment. Guest guest
Agnes, I have used a unit called Acuhealth which is used to give a small electrical stimulation to accupressure points. I have found it very helpful for providing relief from pain. I believe the phone number is 1-800-567-PAIN. The company is located in Ontario, Canada. The cost is over $300.00 Canadian, but insurance companies will cover it with a doctor's prescription. I believe you can rent it for a month to see if it is effective for you. Guest guest
, I have a TENS machine which my physiotherapist advised. I find it gives me pain relief in the spine when the pain level is moderate to low. However, when the pain becomes severe, as it is at the moment, I do not obtain much relief. At this point in spinal pain, I need radio frequency neurotomy to give longer lasting relief and to reduce heavy duty painkillers. Only thirteen days to go before I have this procedure for the fourth time, and the first since I have been using the TENS machine. It will be interesting to see the effect of the TENS machine afterwards, as its electrical stimulation of the nerve fibres will probably be negated by the fact that the nerves have been desensitized by burning them. Guest guest
---I have been doing a LOT of reading reguarding both diseases as I have both. Supposedly this procedure works for some people and not others. Helpful huh? Anyway, good luck, I would recommend trying to read as much as possible before you make a decision. Keep us informed if you do it and if it works. A In @y..., vssy <vssy@h...> wrote: > Anyone use or have any knowledge of the effectiveness of a > TENS machine with PA or Fibro? Guest guest
Thanks Gordon for the feedback. It would be interesting to know if the machine is effective after your procedure! I am getting mixed reviews from both therapists and patients about this machine. They are currently trying to get me a " trial " with the machine. Hopefully, that will help me decide if it is worth the fight with my insurance company to get my own machine. >, > >I have a TENS machine which my physiotherapist advised. Guest guest
- I have used one before and it provided muscle relief but did nothing for my joints. Give it a try it may help. For me it was very relaxing. I even bought a small one to use on my back and neck when my muscles are hurting. >>> vssy@... 03/06/02 01:58AM >>> Anyone use or have any knowledge of the effectiveness of a TENS machine with PA or Fibro? Guest guest
I hope you will forgive me if this has been covered extensively in the past but I am a new member and so I haven't seen it. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis and often gets sore areas on her shoulders or neck which may be muscles or some other tissue. Applying heat helps a little while the heat is being applied but returns when the heat source is removed. Hence my interest in TENS. I see that there is a wide range of units with prices starting at about $15 and rising to $90 or more. Have any readers used TENS? Does it work as well as the advertisements claim? Is a basic unit good enough or are there real advantages in buying a more expensive one? If so, how do I select a suitable one? I live in the U.K. so one sold in Britain would be prefered. Bill.
