Guest guest
Bunny, it's impossible to predict how well a given individual will respond to treatment. The evidence seems to suggest that, generally speaking, a low dose of MTX taken with Remicade is better than none. Your rheumatologist may want to increase your MTX if your response to the current combination isn't satisfactory. Keep in mind that you won't necessarily lose your hair. Many RA patients take MTX without a problem. It's one of the best DMARDs in use for RA. Good luck! I hope you do well on your current dosage - there's no reason to think you won't. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Taking Folic Acid as you do, reduces the chances even more. I've been taking 15mg/week of MTX for almost a year now, and I haven't noticed any difference in my hair. I do admit for the first few months, I was fairly paranoid--checking the tub drain after every shower, etc. Do keep in mind that it's normal to find small amounts of hair in the drain or your comb, etc. Good luck-- dordale
Guest guest
Hi there, Actually not many people lose their hair from taking Methotrexate. Most people don't lose any at all. Taking folic acid will stop the hair loss. Corinne dordale8 wrote: > > > > > > Hi Group, > > I wonder if or someone else will be.able to help me. Guest guest
Hi all - My experience is that I continued to loose hair while on Methotrexate despite folic acid and leucovorin supplementation. The hair thinning was only noticeable to myself. Others were not aware. The mild hair loss I experienced was tolerable. I had taken Methotrexate for over 3 years. When I stopped methotrexate, the hair loss was no longer an issue God bless Dawn Hi there, Actually not many people lose their hair from taking Methotrexate. Most people don't lose any at all. Guest guest
Just another input, I started taking MTX at 15 mg, and immediately began losing hair. I was put on folic acid a couple weeks later, and then my dose was increased a few weeks ago to 20 mg, and still with the folic acid prescription dose, I continue to lose hair. It is as you stated, thining, not complete hair loss or bald patches, so I'm accepting it. But, it is significant. in that I only wash my hair every other day to hep diminish the hair loss, but I am beginning to think that it really doesn't matter what I do, it falls out either way and the most annoying part is that I find hair all over the house and my husband has been very good hearted about all the places he finds my hair. I have to be so careful when I cook so that it doesn't get in the food. Take care, Les > Hi all - > My experience is that I continued to loose hair while on > Methotrexate despite folic acid and leucovorin supplementation. > The hair thinning was only noticeable to myself. Guest guest
Hi Bunny; I've been on 7 - 2.5 mg tabs a week of Methotrexate for about 4 maybe 5 years now. Now I'm up to 8 - 2.5mg a week now. Sure I lose some hair, but not dangerously too much. I'm on 600mg of Remicade every 8 wks. I believe takes more Remicade than I do. I'm on Prednisone for 24 days also. Hopefully they caught your RA before it really started up. I hope the doses you are on are the right strength. You'll be in my prayers . Good luck!
