Marlis Hi there Marlis. I'm currently taking humira every other week also. Have you taken the first injection yet? Yes i know it seems like a huge thing to give yourself a shot...but it gets easier. Some people(including myself) use an ice pack on the spot before injection because it stings quite a bit. I have had great success while taking it and I hope you do as well. Guest guest
Hi Marlis, I'm new to Humira also. I had my second injection yesterday. I've had RA for about 11 years and have just now started the Humira. I also take Arava. My worst fears about Humira have been increased suseptibility to infection and giving myself the shot. I do not like needles. Luckily my husband has no problem giving the shot to me. The first injection didn't hurt at all but the one yesterday burned as it was going in. Once he finished though, the burning stopped. As for the risk of infections, after some really careful thought, I thought it was worth the risk. I was having a lot of pain, more than normal and my current medications were not working. I felt like I really didn't have a choice. And since starting the Humira, my hands and feet don't hurt as much and not for as long in the morning. I hope it helps you too! Guest guest
Marlis, I have been on Humira a few months now...and off for the past six weeks. It works! I got some relief after the second injection. I take it every two weeks. The down side is that it burns really bad when injecting no matter what I do. I also burns like acid my skin for as long as an hour after I inject it. I have had so far one 'square " needle. It was SOOO dull I ended up with terrible bruise after the injection. The other needles have been fine. I found I was only getting severe fatigue for about 2-3 days after my injection and I was feeling much better for about 4 days after the injection and I just suffered until the next shot. I take it every two weeks. I am hoping my doc will go to weekly injections..maybe better relief. If this does not work at the end of nine months I shall talk to my rheummy about other options. Guest guest
Thanks for taking the time to answer. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get relief. I have tons of questions that I guess will get answered when I get the meds and see my nurse, hopefully next week if all goes well with my insurance company. I'm starting to take them every 2 weeks, I hope you are able to start on weekly injections. Marlis Humira ?? My doctor has prescribed Humira injection every other week for my RA.
