Guest guest
Hi Jill: Sorry that the Mtx always caused you so much trouble. I tried Minocycline a few years ago, with Mtx, because the Mtx alone did not seem to be helping any longer, and unfortunately it did not help me. I tried other meds with the Mtx, but since about six months ago, I have been on Enbrel and Mtx and that is helping me. Have you given thought to TNF inhibitors? I sure hope that the antibiotic therapy helps with your RA, and will be keeping you in my prayers that it will. Guest guest
Hi Kathe Thank you for writing.I'm happy to hear you can take Mtx. It makes me feel nauseous just thinking about I'm sorry but I don't know what TNF inhibitors are. I just went along with what ever the Dr said. I guess I didn't take control of the situation until recently.Even if these meds don't help, I feel more in control of my life. Best wishes Jill Canada Hi Jill: Sorry that the Mtx always caused you so much trouble. Guest guest
Hi Jill: If you look onto the RA support page, check the bottom of these posts, you will find info on medications. TNF inhibitors are biological medications such as Enbrel (which I inject twice weekly), Humira which is also self-injected, and also Remicade and some other newer meds which are done by IV and are used less frequenly than I do the Enbrel. These are also DMARDs which are disease modifying drugs, but stronger and more recently on the market, than the long standing Mtx. There is also Plaquenil which I took when first dx for about 2-1/2 years, and I have also been on Arava. I know I have always gotten my doctor's suggestions, but I have made suggestions too based on new things I am learning (from this group specifically) and this has helped me feel more a part of my treatment, more active, and more in control of what I am taking and why. I hope this helps you. Check out what medications are used for RA, how they work, and then you will be able to discuss these other options with your doctor better. It really sounds, in my opinion, and I am not a doctor or medically trained, as if you need something stronger than Minocycline, but I do wish you the best of luck on it.
