I also have Dupuytrens. But, no drying skin...just a strip of raised skin,

that's hard. It looks like a 'worm' under the skin. I didn't think that

anything would prevent it from progressing. However, I will try the exercises.

Thanks

Heidi, Patsy

thanks for writing in.

Patsy, you said that you have a strip of 'raised skin' - is that along the

creases - life lines etc? All of the lines/creases on my right hand have

dried up and the skin splits . Then the area around the life line goes

white. Always after washing things but sometimes from just closing the fist.

Has your doctor said anything about it - any hints, ideas etc?

Have you found any good sites with explanations?

My rheumy said that it is not connected to RA, but, I don't know.

He said to consciously bend the fingers backwards, but not to do it to the

point where they get painful - apparently that can cause them to contract

faster.

Heidi, are all your fingers starting to bend inwards? Has your doctor

suggested surgery?

Any idea of how long between the first symptoms and the bending inwards?

Thanks

No, AnnMArie,

My raised strip goes from the base of my middle finger to the middle of my palm.

I have what I think might be the beginning of it on the other hand, and that

runs along the top crease in the palm. Hope that helps.

Anne Marie,

I was diagnosed in 1999 and it was the last 18 months the bending inwards

started.

I will get to take a pic tomorrow of my hand so you can see how it

looks..

I also have stiffening from arthritis.

The doctor said surgery is an option, but at this point I am not considering

it...

Hugs

Heidi

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know an experience I had with this same thing

in the past. Several years ago, I had a lumpy strip going from my

middle finger to a round hard raised knot in the middle of my palm

that was half the size of my palm. My middle joint of my middle

finger is deformed for good; but over the years being on RA meds, the

strip, knot and swelling had gone away. Sometimes the joint in my

finger still flares up but its bareble. The only difference now is

that my finger won't completely straighten out like the others. I

just never stopped using my hands, kept working them no matter how

much it hurt. Exercise with the meds is recommended by my RA dr.

Good luck to all who has this problem.
