Guest guest
Hi I've been on Pred for many years. My new drs wanted me off it. I am now taking Imuran and Plaquenil . The dosage of Pred is being very slowly decreased. I've gone from 10 mg to 1mg over 6 months and I'm doing good. At first I was afraid that it wouldn't work, Imuran takes a little time to get into your system, or at least that's how it was for me. I'm 63, have glaucoma, osteoporosis, and have already had cataracts removed, blamed on the Pred. The osteoporosis probably would have happened anyway, but maybe not so soon. For those of you thinking that you can't survive the pain without Prednisone, you might try something else while still on the Pred, and begin to decrease it gradually. I would not go without anything while decreasing it, but your drs should be able to work out a schedule. My dr told me that he may need to increase the Imuran if I have pain, but the side effects are nothing compared to Pred. Wishing you a pain-free day............. Guest guest
Imuran is an anti-rejection drug that has shown great results for treating auto-immune diseases. I believe it acts as an anti-imflammatory. Of course, if you reduce the inflammation, you reduce the pain. I have never had to take pain meds, other than aspirin. Even Prednisone is not a pain med, it just relieves the cause of the pain, inflammation. Patsy El Mirage, AZ DX 2005 Stage 1 PBC AIH/SLE/RA/COPD Just a woman of letters....
