I lost use of my hips to prednisone/Medrol/corticosteroid injections,

and the like. Also, recently I was placed on it while in the

hospital at high doses for 2 weeks which probably made the situatiion

worse than it normally would have been, but with any medication it is

perfectly okay to do what's right for your body

type/metabolism/sensitivities.

If your scans were normal then you have the luxury to continue with

it. I am happy for you that you have something like that and you are

still getting normal dexa scans. You are one of the lucky ones.

However, if there are those out there getting diabetes from it,

glaucoma, cataracts, osteoporosis, etc. all the things it causes then

don't copy someone who is doing well with it. So just want people

to be aware. Someone would come online and say how wonderful they

were doing with certain things and out of desperation, I would be off

trying this new drug/thing. I wouldn't get the same effect from it.

Just like those commercials where people with arthritis are doing so

well on Aleve. God bless them but Aleve does absolutely nothing for

me, nor did plaquenil, remicade, kineret, relafen, naprosyn and many

others.

With this, you all should really just weigh your options pros cons

risks, benefits, etc. It really does not boil down to quantity vs.

quality if you are reacting badly or adversely to a medication or

that medication is causing a condition worse than RA like MS or some

other painful condition. I call that pain diversion therapy. It

fixes one part of your body but breaks another. LOL!! It really is a

matter of finding the right medication for you, not your neighbor,

cousin, friend, etc., your own personal system.

I wish you well with whatever meds you are on, however.

peace,

Ebony

Thank you for letting us know because a lot of us don't have thorough

care and we don't know any different. I learned about folic acid

online not from my rheumatologist(s). I learned about stretching and

staying active online and many other things I learned online. No one

ever mentioned Dexa scans to me, I had to ask them about it. There

are so many things I have to ask about myself because it is never

mentioned, so I am not watched closely in my opinion. If I don't

educate myself about certain things I would be much worse off than I

am now.

It isn't stange you don't get the side effects from prednisone.

That's good. I think there are many like that but then there are the

sensitive folks who get the common side effects, bone infections, and

other diseases from anything they take. I didn't have a bad reaction

to the Humira. It didn't help as much as the Enbrel but I didn't get

a reaction from it, then I met someone here who was sick on it and

got infections while taking it. It just depends. As for the weight

gain, I think we can tolerate that if that was the only side effect

or the effects were easily reversed. I do get the moon face in just

7 days where with others taking it take months to get the moon face.

And since the RA is so severe, the side effects are overlooked

because their hands are tied to help me with the pain and

inflammation.

thanks,
