Guest guest
nerve blocks are not fun. i have had around 8 and each one hurt more than the last. would be worth it tho if they worked. problem is that the blocks only lasted around 1/2 hour if at all and then the pain would return and be worse than before. all of my nerve blocks were in the thigh, lower pelvic region and the groin. the ones in the groin were the hardest to tolerate but hearing about the woman who had one in the throat..... wow. i couldnt handle that. wishing everyone pain relief. bonni
Guest guest
Also, have your friend ask the doctor who gives her the script to call the manufacturer. The doctors can often obtain drugs free or at a low cost to provide to patients who can't otherwise afford them. My doctor has been getting botox directly from the manufacturer for injections that stop muscle spasms. It is not approved by the FDA for that specific purpose, but it works. It is approved for plastic surgeons to remove wrinkles! That's why my insurance won't pay for it. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Welcome to the group. I am new " again " and have kind of been just lurking until I noticed your contribution about nerve blocks. I had several, both before my cervical diskectomy and fusion and have had several since with really short duration of pain relief and the last time ended up in the emergency room with what they think was a reaction to something they gave me. I figure that something that lasted such a short duration and caused such stress wasn't worth it to me but glad that they afford you some relief. I am not familiar with the implants you are talking about that have caused you so much grief, could you explain further and if you feel the need to do so, you can explain to me personally instead of the whole list. Thanks. Also wondered of anyone might know if there is a list of Drug Manufact. that offer medication to people at a lower cost. Seems to me I heard about this one time or another and I have a friend who has to take MS Contin and is getting to the point of not being able to afford food because of the high cost of this medication which is not covered by insurance. Help anyone??? I feel lucky because my medication is covered by Work Comp. Thanks again. e (pronounced ) ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Guest guest
Hi e, Have your friend call the 800# of the frug manufacturer- they can direct him/her to a way to get help. I called Jannson about Duragesic and they told me what to do. Ask the pharm for the insert that comes with the meds, the # is usually there. Guest guest
My personal experience is different. I have the blocks in my neck with a Semi conscious sedation, I barely feel it. It's in an OR, so my husband would not be allowed in, I have asked. Only hospital staff allowed, But, since I don't have problems with them, I don't really need him. I guess just as every patient is different so is every doctor. Mine has amazing skill. Kathy
Guest guest
I have also had nerve block in my throat area (highly uncomfortable and scary). They helped right after my surgery, when I ended up with nerve inflamation, but they have tried to treat me with it after I started to get worse with my current situation, and there was no effect. I agree that they increase the amount of stress, and if the physical diagnosis isn't " right " , they can cause CONSIDERABLE pain levels - that's what happened to me when they tried again. I was also told that the eventual help with reducing pain wouldn't be for very long, but since I didn't react positive the last time they did it, I don't even want to think about another one, unless my condition should change to something it could help. For those of you who are having them, or will have them done - it's good to have a hand to squeeze when it's being done, especially if it's in a sensitive area. I experienced it as very scary, and I don't know what I would have done if my husband hadn't been there for me to squeeze hands with. I don't know if this will help any, but it's my personal experience with nerve blocks. H
