Hi . Don't panic. I was on plaquenil first. I had no problems

with it at all. My GP had the foresite to put me on Nexium so there

was no gastric problems. My hair didn't start falling out until they

put me on arava. My Eye Doctor said that he had never known it to

damage eyes in less than 5 years. Good Luck.

I experienced those symptoms and without adequate relief of the pain

I was in. The RA was just starting out at the 2-year mark when they

prescribed Plaquenil. Most meds they use to treat your condition

have the same side effects unfortunately.

I am attached to my hair as well. My hair doesn't grow that fast and

despite it's textured appearance, I have very fine strands. A lot of

strands but baby fine hair nonetheless, it just gives the illusion of

being course. So I mourn every strand I lose and pray it will grow

back someday, although at this age not so sure about that either.

However, I like the answers given by the other poster to go with a

flattering haircut and fill in thinning spots. Take your

multivitamins and minerals, try to keep your body as healthy as you

can so it can fight back with exercise and eating a healthy diet, so

hopefully the loss isn't that bad or that it will grow back.

Hello ! I've been on Plaquenil for a month now and have no side effects

from it. It is the NSAIDs that do a number on my stomach. I haven't seen any

results from it yet, but that should happen sometime in January. I was unable

to take sulfasalazine as that caused severe stomach cramps. I think the trick

is just finding something that works with you. My neighbor lost her hair with

chemo and she said she just got to the point that she didn't care what people

thought when they looked at her. She felt she had enough to deal with, in terms

of getting her breast cancer into remission, that she wasn't going to let the

hair loss bother her.

[ ] Side effects from Plaquenil?

Hi everyone, I was just diagnosed with Lupus/MCTD last week so this is

all new to me and I'm quite scared.

I was reading about side effects from Plaquenil and it sounds HORRIBLE!

What has been your experiences?

It may sound strange, but the worst thing to me is hair loss. I really

loved my hair and lost a lot recently to cytoxin. It's just starting to

be at the point where I'm not embarrassed if I don't wear a hat. The

idea of losing it again makes me want to cry!

It sounds like it also causing terrible digestive problems, vision

loss, and nightmares. What fun.

Any experience to share? If it did make your hair fall out (or anything

else), is there anything you can do to help with that??

In terms of odds, you are more likely to experience a serious side effect

with Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) than with Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).

Many people here have used Plaquenil with no problems. I wish you good luck

with it.

I'll tell you where to go!

Hi

I have been on Plaquenil for 8 months and it has helped me a lot with regard

to the pain in my joints etc. But when having my eyes checked a week ago, the

Dr. told me that he saw a very, very slight damage to the eye which when

developed, I would not be able to see colors. He told me that it is a reversable

damage, meaning that when stopping the drug, everything will return to normal

again. So for the time being, I will keep taking it.

I often wonder if there is no drug amongst the ones we are taking that has

'nice' or 'funny' side effects for a change, like make you laugh all the time or

make you see all the bad things in a pink light, or s.th. like that?

Take care

Hi ,

I have been taking Plaquenil and Mtx for several years and haven't

lost any hair or had any other side effects.

As someone else said, everyone is different and we do not all have

the same reactions to these drugs we have to take.

Good luck,

Annette from UK.

Yes, and why can't we have some " chronic pleasure " instead of " chronic

pain " all of the time, LOL?

I do think some of the pain medications put you in a great mood (euphoria).

Trouble is, people abuse them.
