Guest guest
Yes, my nada thinks's she's psychic. I think it's a combination of intuition and luck. Like one time she 'sensed' a friend of hers was pregnant. The friend had not confided in her she was trying to get pregnant, but she was 32 years old, had just completed her PhD, and had been married four years - it doesn't take any supernatural powers to know that's the kind of life situation when it's likely she'd start to have kids. Guest guest
oh yesss, mine is very inuitive. and there is another on this board (edith, i think???) who told me that her nada makes a living as a psychic! the thing is, my nada IS actually gifted. i have seen her say and do some astronomical things- " connecting " and such. BUT, she is so religious that she feels all of that stuff is evil and she denies that part of herself. your nada seems to adopt the opposite attutide...she believes she has a gift (and she might) but she uses that belief against you. (leave it to a nada to find something to use against someone emotionally) the next time she tries to tell you that she is psychic and can read your mind...you just tell her that we are ALL psychic and that HER mind is an open book to you as well!!! this should kick in her paranoia and make her run screaming from you!!! (just teasing!) LOL nev > Hello everyone, > I was just wondering if any of your BPD nada's claim to be psychic? > My mother insists that she has psychic ability and she uses it against > me to justify her actions and my wrongdoings. Guest guest
> > I was just wondering if any of your BPD nada's claim to be > psychic? My nada's psychic stuff mostly consists of her insistance that she has a special " connection " with us kids that tells her when we are in danger. She calls me three or four times a year to tell me she's had a dream about me being in danger and begs me to take extra precautions for the next few weeks. I usually just tell her okay so she won't fuss, and then I don't worry about it.
Guest guest
Mine does that. She says I am too. It's nice that she thinks I'm something she likes. But it's not real to me. I think 'psychic' is an offshoot of intuition. Some people are more intuitive than others. When I was a kid my mom used to swear that she was a witch and that she could predict the future. She claimed to have " visions " and premonitions that later were supposed to have come true. She even at one point made a witch kit for her best friends daughter full of potions and spells- which was not only weird but also hurt my feelings because she didn't make one for me. Classic. Guest guest
> I think 'psychic' is an offshoot of intuition. Some people are > more intuitive than others. Then my nada must not be very intuitive, because none of her 'psychic' stuff ever comes true. ;-) T.
Guest guest
>I was just wondering if any of your >BPD nada's claim to be psychic? My nada has always claimed to be psychic. When I was younger this took the form of predicting that the world would end. She had this prediction a lot. Once she insisted that we stockpile food and bought enough food for the family for over 2 years. Another time she had a vision the world would end and the only safe place was in the desert, so we spent all day driving around the desert. Other times she would sit us all down because she had another vision and went over an evacuation plan. Nada also has " visions " that her family is " destined for greatness " . Nada has never been happy with being a regular, ordinary human being.

I found Sam Vaknin's Faqs and Archives extremely helpful in understanding my BPD/NPD nada. There are 82 of Sam Vaknin's Narcissism FAQs at: http://samvak.tripod.com/faq1.html And there are excerpts from the Archives of his Narcissism Revisited Study List at: http://samvak.tripod.com/archive01.html Cheers, Edith - Moderator / WTO lists
Guest guest
Her 'premonitions' are probably just anxiety that something bad will happen. I can relate to that! I don't think bpd's are very intuitive - too self involved. Cyndy --- adovbs wrote: > > I think 'psychic' is an offshoot of intuition. Guest guest
My Mom has canned food stacked up all over the place. I think she's afraid of being snowed in or incapacitated. Or running out of money. Or something. My Dad goes along with all her whims. He always has. Fighting does no good; she always wins. Guest guest
My mom doesn't claim to be psychic, but she does say things like, " I KNOW you " or, " I'm your mother, I just KNOW these things. " I think they are meant in part to intimidate me -- to keep me from separating from her ( " Don't you dare think those " bad " thoughts, because I will know about it " ). And they are also indicative of just how much she thinks we are the same person. If we're the same person, of course she " knows " me, because I (should) think and act exactly like her. The funny thing is, she doesn't know me at all. She buys me gifts I hate, blathers on for hours about things I'm not interested in, never asks me what's going on in my life, etc. There are times when I'm lying to her and she knows it, but that's our " dance " -- I lie to her when I am afraid to tell her the truth for fear of making her mad. But I won't say what she wants to hear, either. She's always able to figure that one out. Psychic? No. Thinks she's in my head? Yes. Guest guest
Just had a light bulb moment. My Grand-nada used to be able to tell when family died, the house would crack loudly. The funny thing was I also heard the house crack the night before the call that her brother-in-law died.
