Guest guest
Hi Jodi: For me, I have more of a burning, electrical buzzing, type pain which is constant for me -it involves especially the tops of my feet and ankles, and this will radiate up into my calves, and sometimes will also involve my knees and thighs. Sometimes my feet and calves also have a type of numb feeling as if sensation is less somehow, but there is still pain. Weird. It's a very uncomfortable sensation, and causes me to move my leg position often - sitting or laying down. I think mine is due to fibro, or restless leg syndrome in a way, but the pure and constant pain/ache/numbness sensation is really strange. I take Lyrica for nerve pain, and this has helped to decrease especially the severe night leg pain I have. I still have nights when the leg pain will just shoot into my calf and bring me upright because of the pain. It is a shooting and burning pain at night more than the constant achy feeling during the day. Do you have fibro too? If not, please have this checked out by your doctor. It could be that, or somehow is related to another immune system problem, or in your case could just be your arthritis causing it. However, it is definately something that you should bring up to your doctor and have checked out on your next visit, if not sooner. Hope this helps - Kathe in CA --- Jodi <kathousefl@...> wrote: > Hello everyone, > > I hope you are all doing well today. > > Does anyone else experience a throbbing/aching type > pain in their legs > (calves and thighs)? Guest guest
Thanks for responding, Jan. My pain is usually worse when I am lying down or sitting. Guest guest
In the first year of my RA experience, I had trouble with my calves. They started hurting and cramping bad enough for me to go to the doctor. My regular doc wasn't in, so I saw a 'stand-in' from Dallas. As soon as I explained why I was there, she had me strip to my skivvies and walk across the room on my heels, then on my toes. Her diagnosis was that Prednisone was causing it, and ordered me to stop taking it for 3 days. Of course, I was new to this stuff and knew if I went off the Prednisone, I would hurt something awful. I did as she said and didn't hurt much more than normal. After that, when I felt the calf cramping, I would stop Prednisone for a couple of days without any problems, and the cramps would go away. Even now, 16+ years later, if I get too hot or work my muscles too hard, any of my muscles will cramp, fingers, elbows, back, feet, whichever feels like it. I don't even stop the Prednisone any more, just put up with it, it'll go away.
