Guest guest
Hi Sierra, Yes, they definitely can do cortisone injections for tendonitis. I have had one hand and both shoulders injected. The Rheumatologist explained to me that since RA basically causes inflamation not of the joint itself, but of the synovium, you can get the same inflamation in the tendon sheaths as well. (they are lined with synovium, just like your joints) The middle tendon sheath in my hand had swollen so much that it trapped the tendon, and my hand froze into a ball. The doc injected it with cortisone to get it to open back up again. I have to warn you, though... it really hursts... more than most cortisone shots because your hand is such a sensitive area to begin with. > > Hello, > My RA has caused tendonitis. Guest guest
Were you helped long-term by the injection in your hand? Any negative side effects (besides the pain)? Thank you! Guest guest
Yes, it definitely helped. Within 24 hours, my hand was opening and closing normally, and it hasn't seized up again. Now, part of that is that at the same time, I received my RA dx, and was put on oral prednisone & Mtx. But I don't think the oral pred is a high enough dose that it would have resolved my hand seizing up by itself, and I'm not convinced that the Mtx is doing much of anything. I've found cortisone injections to be very effective in both my shoulders and my hands. (I've had them in the past for an OA problem in my basal thumb joint, which eventually needed reconstruction) I've also had both trocanter bursars injected, and that was much less effective. Within 2 weeks, I was back where I started with those. > > > > > > Hello, > > > My RA has caused tendonitis. Right now I have it in my hand, > > running > > > down the middle finger. Guest guest
Sierra, I've had cortizone shots in my left knee (Friday April 14, I think.) Tendonitis is very painful...I don't know. ;( snowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: Hello, My RA has caused tendonitis. Right now I have it in my hand, running down the middle finger. I showed it to my rheumy last time I was there and she said, " Oh...swollen! " and suggested taping it to my other finger. When I had ankle tendonitis the podiatrist who noticed it prescribed ice, rest, and Advil. I'm wondering if that's all I can do for my hand--lately the pain has become sharp at times. Unfortunately, it's the hand I use most. Does anyone know if cortisone injections are ever given for tendonitis? I'd welcome any ideas. Thanks! Guest guest
Tendonitis is very restricting,as when i have a bad time with it i can't do a lot with my fingers,as they lock completely and are very painfull.I have had injections a few times,it does work well for me.I also have fluid around my leg tendons,i have had ultra sounds to check my tendons every couple of years.I do hope you will get relief soon. > > > > > > Hello, > > > My RA has caused tendonitis. Guest guest
i hate to ask this but are you sure it's not carpal tunnel ? i sometimes have to sleep with splints to relax my wrists at night but i have had the ct a lot longer than the ra. i got the feeling, too, that tendonitis is not an uncommon " side effect " of ra . . . . far as i know it's ibuprofen and that's that. i do use a greyt topical called triflora arthritis gel. the company is b-t pharmaceuticals or something close. i can check if you want when i get home but i'll tell you, most vitamin stores carry it and will know exactly what you mean. hugs, bon/boys > > Hello, > My RA has caused tendonitis. Guest guest
MY rheumy identified it as tendonitis. I like that triflora gel, too. It's a homeopathic balm. I've tried 'em all! I also like Bio-Freeze and Tiger Balm red. My hubby's not a fan of the scents, so I don't use them too often. Sierra > > > > Hello, > > My RA has caused tendonitis. Guest guest
if you want to try one that really has no scent, try traumeel creme. i have friends who swear by it but i still like the triflora better (and happily my boys could care less . . . . in all honesty, the more it smells the better they like it lololol). bon/boys > > > > > > Hello, > > > My RA has caused tendonitis.
