Guest guest
What is the difference between celebrex and vioxx? Are they essentially the same only manufactured by different companies? Is the glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate treatment useful for rheumatoid arthritis as well as osteo? These drugs, known as COX-2 inhibitors, are wildly popular because they are touted to be less likely to cause gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding than aspirin, ibuprofen, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). However, an FDA advisory panel earlier ths year called this safety advantage into question, and other research suggests that these drugs are hard on the kidneys. > >Now researchers from the Cleveland Clinic have found that COX-2 inhibitors are associated with a modest increase in risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular events. This is yet another reason why I suggest that you avoid these expensive, over-hyped drugs. Instead, manage your arthritis with topical pain relievers, occasional NSAIDS, and most important, glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, natural agents that don't just provide symptomatic relief but actually reverse arthritis by regenerating cartilage. Guest guest
Jack, It is my understanding that Celebrex and Vioxx are very similar in action. I have used both. Both can alleviate RA symptoms and are claimed to be gentler on the stomach than conventional NSAIDs. The big differences are that Vioxx only requires one pill per day instead of two, and that Vioxx treatment is 35% to 40% less expensive. I have placed myself on 25% of the recommended dosage of Vioxx by taking one quarter of the recommended 25 mg pill each morning. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are primarily joint foods and have proven themselves with osteoarthritis in a number of clinical trials. Two excellent books on the subject are " Maximizing the Arthritis Cure " by Theodosakis, Adderly and Barry Fox, and " Arthritis: The Doctors' Cure " by Loses, Wikholm, Shields and Steinman. I am taking this food supplement as a preventive measure, since joint damage and osteoarthritis can be consequences of RA. Guest guest
Hi Rainy! I'm so glad to hear from you. I think about you often. Are you still writing? I'm sorry about your friend. I hope you're able to keep that strong attitude. I know it's difficult when others around you are having problems. I was on vioxx for about a year but I took myself off it because it raised my BP. It wasn't long after that the news started telling of stories about the link to heart attacks. a On Apr 8, 2006, at 4:26 AM, Rainy wrote: > Hello to all my friends. Guest guest
Please don't get me started on the evils of vioxx! I personaly feel the kidney failure that vioxx caused my to have, is what triggered my RA. a Papola <a54@...> wrote: Hi Rainy! I'm so glad to hear from you. I think about you often. Guest guest
Hello Rainy, Sorry it has taken me awhile to answer your note. Sorry things have been hard for you. I was allergic to Celebrex and Vioxx that was a mess. It raised my blood pressure so high. I found out right here on the list what was causing the problem When I ask the doctors they didn't believe me, reluctantly took me off the Vioxx. Thank God, I would have been in real trouble if I had stayed on the drug. I'm having my eye operated on Thursday. I have cataracts and they are telling me it is from all the years of taking the predisone. I didn't know it would cause this when I started taking it. I am right now trying to come off of it and there is a major difference in the pain level. What are you currently taking for the Ra. If I remember right you were on Remicade. I thought it was really helping you. It is great hearing from you but I feel bad that you are having so many problems. The loss of a friend is hard. Let me know how you are and if you have had any luck with the drug information. So glad to hear from you, MeMom [ ] Celebrex & Vioxx Hello to all my friends. Hello to all those who don't know me. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you so much for remembering about the surgery. I'm not worried about it. They told me that I probably got the cataracts from prednisone. Wish I had known that when I started taking it. Right now I am down to one mg.. So we will see how it goes. Hope you and the kids are well. Happy Easter!!! Lynn Re: [ ] Celebrex & Vioxx > > >> Hello Rainy, >> Sorry it has taken me awhile to answer your note. Sorry things have >> been >> hard for you. Guest guest
~ I just had my second cataract surgery Friday -- It's a snap! I went in both times - got a lot of TLC from the nurses and felt the sedation take effect and the next thing I knew I was going home with a big patch on my eye. The following day the Doc removes it and your vision will slowly improve over time. In fact I was intending to go to worl today after the post-op appt! LOL........And I do construction work! You'll see a marked difference right away though. Mine were caused by 30 years of pred use. They were described as " steroidal cataracts " ...........apparantly steroidal cataracts are unique to the anterior wall of the lens. I will be thinking about you and hoping that everything turns out as good for you as it did for me. If you have any questions ask away - I'll answer whatever I can...... Guest guest
Good, Lynn. Don't worry. My dad had the surgery in both eyes a couple of years ago (also because of prednisone), and it was easy and very successful. We're all fine here. Happy Easter to you and yours, too! Not an MD I'll tell you where to go!
