Guest guest
Claudette: I'm sure it's been a frustrating 15 years for you, and I'm sure it seems like arthroscopy is the solution, but let me offer one other option before you go through with the surgery. I suggest you try to find a doctor who isn't a surgeon, perhaps a pain specialist. They tend to be more conservative than orthopedic surgeons and usually have a number of less invasive options than surgery. After being diagnosed with CP over a year ago by two doctors and told I should give up running, I found a pain specialist who cured me of my knee pain. One of the treatments he used is called prolotherapy. I've since started running again. I've been running over 8 miles at a time and about 25 miles a week without pain. I urge you to seek out a doctor who isn't a surgeon, preferably one who offers prolotherapy in his or her practice. At least do some research on this type of treatment. A good place to start is: http://www.getprolo.com If you have any questions (and you should), post them here or send me an E-mail (dougfromct2002@...). I believe CP can be cured without surgery, and that surgery should only be considered if you absolutely cannot function in daily life and have exhausted every other option. I know you've tried a bunch of treatments and are frustrated with the lack of results, but you owe it to yourself to explore a few avenues you haven't yet gone down. Guest guest
Dear Claudettepace After having arthroscopic surgery (10 years ago now) it has only made my life worse!! I agree 100% with Doug, only get the surgery if you absolutely need it. If you don't have surgery now, you can always get it a year from now. But if you do have surgery, you can't go back. I know you are days away from your surgery, and I do not mean to discourage you. If I could play my life back again, I would go back to June 8, 1992 10 am. I would get up from the surgical table and walk out from the operating room before they put me under. I have never met anyone who has had surgery on the knee and said that it improved their situation. Anyways, good luck, and I hope that I did not discourage you. heyjude2ca
Guest guest
hi ......looking for some information Has anyone had knee arthroscopy done ? ? Despite what the literature says or the doctor's office....I'm wondering what the reality of recovery has been for others ? ? I'm not too wimpy about the surgery itself....just worried about how much " down time " afterwards ? ? My hubby works out of town (actually he drive for an hour and then gets on a small plane for 20 min) and is gone from 6 am to 8 pm most days. My 12 yr old son attends an independent school 32 miles from home...and I drive him there daily--so, that is my biggest worry--how soon will I be able to drive ? ? Also, since dh is not home much, how soon have folks found they could manage going to the grocery store, doing laundry, etc etc thanks in advance, nancy
Guest guest
HI , I had knee arthroscopy in Feb. It was my left knee, so driving wasn't an issue (except our car that is a standard, I STILL can't drive that.) The doc wouldn't clear me to drive for a month, but I did it anyway. Rehab wasn't bad at all. I was weight bearing the same day as surgery. We have two special needs sons, one of whom needs constant supervision, and I needed help with him, but other than that, I just put a basket on my walker and did what needed to be done. Now, I am having a total knee replacement next Monday, b/c the surgery didn't work and I retore my meniscus during recovery by tripping over a toy box! Good luck w/ your surgery arthroscopy Posted by: " " nancynfoster@... nnfoster2003 Date: Tue Nov 21, 2006 3:30 pm ((PST)) hi ......looking for some information Has anyone had knee arthroscopy done ? ?
