He told me that my Dr asked for him because he knew what he was doing with the CMT factor.. I felt way good knowing my Dr knew more about CMT then I did. Guest guest
Thanks Jeena: I need a mastopexy. I've already been explanted. I'm confused about the surgery thing because usually surgeons will put up a cloth as a block so you don't actually see the operation. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom's hair loss. That's awful. Was that the first time you Mom lost hair? I too wonder if my loss is permanent.....They say with surgery it's not supposed to be, but it sure makes you wonder...... Guest guest
When I went back to Cleveland and had the hole in my breast and had necrosis, I wanted Dr. Feng to fix it while I was awake, too. She indicated that she could do that, but hated to do it, because she was concerned if I became emotionally upset during the surgery. I got the feeling that maybe someone had sort of freaked out during surgery something or something. I would hate to assume too much, but she did say she felt it would be too traumatic for me to SEE my breast being open and all that would be involved. When she was reluctant, I thought she seemed so concerned about how that would affect me. When I thought about it, I could see where it might be a little rough to watch half or all of my breast have to be removed. I thought it was because, in my case, she didn't know what she would find when she got in there and I was already so emotional about the whole situation. After she explained it to me, I was sort of glad she didn't agree to do it. Now, thinking about it, I can't remember if she said she would NOT do it under local, or if she said she didn't want to do it like and I just readily understood and agreed. I really hope you did get called or that we could know more about this situation. I usually talked with about my medical questions, not . was always so very kind and informative with me and always answered all my questions. What exactly are you needing to have done on your breasts? are you explanted already? I am new here, so I am pretty unfamiliar with your story. I am sure you probably told about it, but it would take alot of reading for me to find it. Would you share a little about it with me? Guest guest
Hi , thanks for your concern. Oh yes, I've had EXTENSIVE lab work done to run out all other possible causes. My hair loss always began 6-8 weeks after each surgery (which according to medical journals is typical--they say 1-6 months after the inciting event--on average 3 months) and lasted about 4 months and ceased. Again, thanks for discussing this issue, I appreciate it. I'm feeling better as a result. Pearl
Guest guest
Danita, I have had several surgeries recently unrelated to CMT (torn ligament, kidney stones) and informed the surgeon and anesthesiologist--no problem. But, it is important to keep in mind that the body experiences general anesthesia and surgery as a trauma. A surgical nurse explained to me that it actually takes several weeks to fully recover from the stress of the anesthesia--this in addition to the healing from surgery. That means it is important to pay attention to taking especially good care of yourself--eating nutritiously, gentle exercise, rest, and avoiding other negative stresses as much as possible. It is, of course, interesting to note that such activities are always good practice, but especially important when recovering from anesthesia and surgery. Good luck. Guest guest
Danita, I was told by my doctor to not have a " Nerve Block " because of my CMT. I don't know what is but I have had several surgeries and I always tell the doctor about this going in. They sound like it is not a very common procedure but I wanted them to know. You might want to check on this. CMT Bob
Guest guest
Hi Danita: I just underwent a 1.5 hour surgery under general anesthetic. The anesthetist knew about CMT and was using an IV " drug " that in his words, " did not have any affect at all on the nerves themselves " . He said everything would be fine. He was absolutely right. I had a very quick recovery. They started the operation at 7:45 AM and I left the hospital at 10:20 AM. Fantastic. It is important to let the doctors know you have CMT. In my case it was very beneficial to the anesthetist. He knew what to do. Regards, Beckingham Corporate Nice Guy
Guest guest
My mother, age 92, had several surgeries during the last years of her life. She always had problems with confusion after the anesthesia. It took her several days to get back to reality. I don't know if this was due to CMT or her age.
